Description The Driver provides transportation for clients who are blind or visually impaired. The Driver plays an important role in helping clients maintain independence and access essential appointments, programs, and other approved destinations. The Driver will be patient, respectful, punctual, and comfortable assisting individuals with vision loss and other mobility needs. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Safely transport clients to and from scheduled appointments, CSSS programs, and other approved destinations providing sighted guide assistance between the vehicle and the final destination of appointment or the meeting location when appropriate.
Provide courteous and respectful assistance to clients who are blind or visually impaired when entering and exiting the vehicle.
Ensure all passengers are properly seated and using seat belts before the vehicle is placed in motion.
Operate agency vehicles safely and in accordance with Pennsylvania traffic laws and CSSS' policies.
Follow assigned transportation schedules and routes and make every reasonable effort to maintain timely pickups and drop-offs.
Communicate promptly with agency staff regarding delays, cancellations, transportation concerns, or changes in passenger needs.
Maintain accurate transportation records, including mileage, passenger trips, destinations, and other required documentation.
Conduct basic pre-trip and post-trip vehicle checks and report mechanical, safety, or maintenance concerns immediately.
Maintain the cleanliness and general condition of agency vehicles.
Ensure that emergency and safety equipment remains in the vehicle and report missing or damaged equipment.
Follow agency procedures regarding vehicle fueling and maintenance.
Maintain professional and appropriate communication with clients, family members, caregivers, agency staff, and community partners.
Protect client privacy and maintain confidentiality regarding all personal and service-related information.
Immediately report accidents, incidents, injuries, vehicle damage, or safety concerns according to agency procedures.
Perform other transportation-related duties as assigned. Qualifications Valid Pennsylvania driver's license with a safe and acceptable driving record.
Ability to meet CSSS' automobile insurance requirements.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Ability to safely operate agency vehicles.
Knowledge of the area and surrounding communities.
Ability to use GPS/navigation systems and follow transportation schedules.
Dependable, punctual, patient, and professional with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work respectfully with individuals of varying ages, abilities, and levels of independence.
Complete required background clearances and screenings.
