Job Description

Overview We are seeking a dedicated Lugger Operator to join our waste management team. The Lugger Operator is responsible for operating specialized trucks designed for efficient collection and transportation of municipal and commercial waste. This role plays a vital part in maintaining cleanliness, safety, and environmental standards within the community. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical knowledge, excellent driving skills, and a commitment to safety protocols. Duties Operate front loader trucks, rear loader trucks, and roll-off trucks to load, transport, and unload waste materials efficiently. Drive commercial trucks in compliance with DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations, state transportation laws, and safety standards. Load and unload waste containers accurately while adhering to hazardous materials regulations when applicable. Conduct routine inspections of vehicles to ensure mechanical integrity and report any maintenance needs promptly. Follow traffic laws and safety protocols during route driving to ensure safe operations at all times. Assist with solid waste management activities, including municipal waste collection and disposal processes. Maintain accurate records of daily routes, loads, and service activities for reporting purposes. Perform heavy lifting tasks safely during waste collection operations and assist with manual handling when necessary. Ensure proper handling of hazardous materials in accordance with safety guidelines. Communicate professionally with team members and customers to provide excellent customer service. Experience Prior experience operating front loader trucks, rear loader trucks, or roll-off trucks is highly desirable. Proven knowledge of commercial truck driving, including manual transmission operation and air brake systems. Familiarity with heavy equipment operation, including front-end loaders used in waste collection. Understanding of traffic laws, DOT regulations, and hazardous materials handling procedures. Experience working outdoors in various weather conditions with physical endurance for heavy lifting tasks. Knowledge of solid waste management practices within municipal or private sectors. Strong mechanical aptitude for basic vehicle maintenance checks and troubleshooting. Demonstrated commitment to safety protocol adherence during all operational activities. Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements preferred.
