JOB OVERVIEW

The CDL Driver is responsible for the safe and compliant operation of Colt's commercial motor vehicles, transporting materials and equipment between the yard, plants, and active jobsites. The role performs required vehicle inspections, complies with applicable DOT and FMCSA regulations, and ensures loads are properly secured and delivered safely and on schedule.

• Support field operations by coordinating closely with dispatch and job superintendents.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The responsibilities and physical requirements listed below are considered essential functions of this position. 1. Prioritize Safety

• Operate commercial motor vehicles in accordance with all DOT, FMCSA, and Colt safety policies.
• Perform required pre-trip inspections and post-trip inspections or driver vehicle inspection reports (DVIRs) at the frequency required by applicable law and Colt policy, and report vehicle condition.
• Immediately report unsafe vehicle conditions, mechanical issues, incidents, injuries, or hazards.
• Comply with all applicable federal and Texas hours-of-service, record-of-duty-status, ELD, time-record, and short-haul requirements or exceptions, as determined by Colt.
• Use required PPE and follow proper procedures for loading, unloading, and securing materials and equipment.
• Follow Colt safety protocols for site-specific hazards, including silica dust, hot asphalt, moving heavy equipment, and overhead power lines or unstable ground, as covered in Colt's Toolbox Talk (TBT) training.
• For ready-mix assignments: follow safe washout/cleanout procedures; never enter the mixer drum without lockout/tagout and authorization; avoid contact with wet concrete; control chutes and pinch points; and account for vehicle stability and rollover risk.
• Do not operate a vehicle with a condition that makes it unsafe or places it out of service. Notify dispatch and the Op Manager immediately and follow Colt's applicable out-of-service procedure.
• Follow Colt's procedures for crashes, spills, load loss, vehicle breakdowns, and roadside emergencies, including post-accident testing, photographs, notifications, and preservation of required documentation.
• Immediately report any citation, crash, license suspension, revocation, cancellation, disqualification, medical-certification change, or restriction that may affect the ability to operate an assigned vehicle, in accordance with applicable law and Company policy.
• Never operate a vehicle while fatigued, impaired, or under conditions that compromise safety.
• Participate in required Colt safety training, Toolbox Talks, and safety meetings. 2. Vehicle Operation & Material Transport
• Safely drive and operate assigned commercial vehicles, which may include a multi-axle tandem dump truck, ready-mix truck, flatbed, or lowboy, to transport concrete, aggregate, equipment, or materials between plants, the yard, and jobsites.
• Specific vehicle assignments, endorsements, experience requirements, and essential functions may vary by business need and will be communicated before assignment.
• Plan routes considering load requirements, road and weight restrictions, weather, and jobsite access.
• Assess jobsite access and maneuvering conditions before proceeding.
• Properly load, secure, and unload materials and equipment in accordance with safety and DOT cargo-securement standards.
• Coordinate delivery timing with dispatch, plant personnel, and jobsite superintendents to support production schedules.
• Operate vehicles courteously and professionally, representing Colt safely and positively on public roadways and at customer sites. 3. Vehicle Inspection & Maintenance
• Conduct and document required daily vehicle inspections and promptly report identified defects or maintenance needs.
• Perform daily vehicle maintenance, including checking and adding fluids as necessary, lubricating as needed, fueling the truck, and inspecting and replacing mud flaps and similar items as needed.
• May assist mechanics with vehicle repair as needed.
• Promptly report mechanical issues, damage, or safety defects to the shop, consistent with Colt's applicable out-of-service procedure described above.
• Maintain a clean work environment for the truck, yard, and jobsite.
• Assist with basic roadside troubleshooting when safe and appropriate to do so. 4. Documentation & Regulatory Compliance
• Maintain accurate driver logs, DVIRs, and Hours of Service records using Colt's ELD system.
• Cooperate with required driver-qualification reviews, road testing, and documentation procedures.
• The driver must provide timely licenses, medical documentation, motor vehicle records, prior-employer information, and other records reasonably required for Colt to establish and maintain a compliant Driver Qualification (DQ) file under 49 CFR Part 391. Colt is responsible for obtaining, reviewing, and retaining employer-required records.
• Employment and continued assignment to safety-sensitive driving duties are contingent upon the driver maintaining a status that permits operation of a CMV under applicable FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse requirements. Colt will conduct required pre-employment and recurring queries and comply with applicable return-to-duty and follow-up requirements.
• Complete accurate delivery tickets, bills of lading, and other required paperwork for each load.
• Maintain required documentation in the vehicle at all times and produce it for DOT inspections as needed. 5. Coordination & Communication
• Follow directions and accurately receive, comprehend, and follow instructions from dispatch, including efficient handling of delivery tickets.
• Communicate proactively with dispatch regarding delays, route issues, or schedule changes.
• Coordinate with jobsite personnel to ensure safe and efficient loading/unloading at each stop.
• Report near-misses, incidents, or unsafe road/jobsite conditions to management promptly.
• Demonstrate excellent communication and teamwork skills, and dedication to Colt's values and commitment to quality and service for our customers.
• Support other yard, shop, or field duties as assigned when not actively driving.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Must possess and maintain a valid Class A CDL is required for assignments involving combination vehicles (e.g., lowboy) for which Class A privileges are legally required.
• Must possess and maintain the class of CDL, endorsements, and license status required for each assigned vehicle, without disqualifying restrictions. Drivers assigned to air-brake-equipped vehicles must not have an air-brake restriction.
• Must be at least 21 years old for eligible intrastate operations within Texas. Drivers assigned to interstate commerce, or otherwise required by applicable law, must be at least 21 years old. Colt will confirm whether a given route or load qualifies as intrastate commerce, since origin, destination, or continuous movement of the freight can make an in-Texas trip part of interstate commerce.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate, when required by applicable federal or Texas law, and provide evidence of the appropriate CDL medical certification status.
• Must meet applicable federal and Texas licensing, medical-certification, and driver-qualification requirements.
• Must maintain a driving record acceptable under Colt's uniformly applied fleet-safety standards.
• Must authorize Colt to obtain and review all motor vehicle records required by applicable law and Company policy and must provide any additional driving records reasonably requested by Colt.
• Prior to hire, Colt will review the applicant's DOT-regulated safety performance history from previous employers for the preceding three years, as required under 49 CFR 391.23.
• Must successfully complete required qualification reviews, road testing or a documented regulatory equivalent, drug and alcohol testing, and job-related post-offer assessments, as applicable.
• Safety-sensitive position: offers of employment may be conditioned on successful completion of job-related pre-employment requirements, which may include DOT-compliant drug and alcohol testing, verification of driving qualifications and safety history, a motor vehicle record review, a criminal background check, and a job-related post-offer physical or functional assessment, as permitted by applicable law.

• Criminal history will be evaluated in accordance with applicable law and Company policy, considering the nature of the offense, the time elapsed, and its relationship to the position.
• Must maintain a status permitting the lawful operation of a CMV under applicable FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse requirements.
• Must timely report changes affecting CDL status, medical certification, endorsements, restrictions, or legal qualification to drive.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States and successfully complete required employment eligibility verification.
• Working knowledge of

DOT/FMCSA

regulations, Hours of Service rules, and cargo-securement requirements.

• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English for safety, documentation, and operational requirements; bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
• Basic mobile-technology skills required to use ELD and dispatch/communication systems.
• Must be comfortable working in an industrial setting with PPE.
• Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.

EXPERIENCE / EDUCATION

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Minimum 1-2 years of verifiable commercial driving experience preferred; construction, concrete, or aggregate hauling experience a plus.
• Experience operating dump trucks, mixer trucks, flatbeds, or lowboys preferred, depending on assignment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly sits, stands, walks, and uses mobile devices or completes electronic records, and occasionally lifts up to 50 pounds (e.g., chains, chutes, tarps, hoses, and other load-securement equipment); heavier lifting must be performed with appropriate assistance or equipment.
• Ability to climb into and out of the cab and trailer, and to bend, kneel, crouch, and reach when inspecting or securing loads.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including Texas heat.
• Ability to safely operate vehicle controls, mirrors, and safety equipment for extended shifts.

LOCATION AND OTHER KEY DETAILS

• This is a full-time, permanent, field-based position at our Dallas site.
• Local jobsites, plants, and material sources as operational needs require.
• Reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (preferred).
• Workday varies depending on job schedule, but the majority of work is completed Monday to Friday during the early morning and throughout the day; however, must have a willingness to work irregular hours, including Saturdays, based on business needs.
