CDL Class A Truck Driver - Local Port & Container Hauling Houston, TX | Monday-Friday | Home Nightly | Full-Time Job Overview We are seeking an experienced, dependable, and safety-conscious CDL Class A Truck Driver to join our transportation team in Houston, Texas. This position primarily involves hauling shipping containers to and from the Port of Houston, including local container pickups, deliveries, and transportation between port terminals, warehouses, distribution centers, and customer locations. In addition to port container hauling, drivers may occasionally transport general freight throughout the Houston area and surrounding locations. There may also be opportunities or business needs requiring occasional out-of-town deliveries. This is primarily a local driving position with a Monday-Friday schedule, allowing drivers to be home nightly under normal operating conditions. We are looking for professional drivers with at least two years of commercial driving experience who understand the importance of safety, punctuality, communication, and dependable service. Key Responsibilities Safely operate Class A commercial tractor-trailers, primarily transporting shipping containers to and from the Port of Houston. Pick up and deliver loaded and empty shipping containers between port terminals, warehouses, container yards, distribution centers, and customer facilities. Perform local container hauling (drayage) and occasional general freight deliveries. Occasionally complete out-of-town deliveries as assigned based on operational needs. Navigate port terminals and comply with all terminal entry, security, and operational procedures. Properly inspect container chassis, tires, lights, brakes, and other equipment before and after trips. Verify container numbers, seal numbers, shipping documents, and delivery instructions for accuracy. Ensure containers and freight are properly secured before transportation. Communicate effectively with dispatchers regarding pickup appointments, delivery schedules, terminal delays, and shipment updates. Maintain accurate records, including bills of lading, interchange receipts, delivery confirmations, and electronic logs. Follow all DOT, FMCSA, and applicable port safety regulations. Report equipment defects, mechanical issues, accidents, or cargo discrepancies immediately. Maintain a professional attitude when interacting with customers, port personnel, dispatchers, and other transportation partners. Assist with freight loading and unloading when required. Experience hauling shipping containers or working in port drayage operations is strongly preferred. TWIC Card preferred at the time of hire. Applicants without a TWIC Card must make obtaining one a priority and obtain it within 60 days (2 months) of their employment start date. Must meet all applicable DOT and FMCSA driver qualification requirements. Must possess a valid DOT medical certification. Must have an acceptable driving record and a strong commitment to safety. Must be able to pass required pre-employment drug screening and comply with applicable DOT drug and alcohol testing requirements. Knowledge of Port of Houston terminals, container yards, and surrounding transportation routes is a plus. Familiarity with container chassis inspections, container securement, and port pickup/delivery procedures is preferred. Ability to operate GPS navigation and electronic logging devices (ELDs). Must be dependable, punctual, organized, and able to work independently. Strong communication and customer service skills. Must be available to work Monday through Friday and occasionally accept out-of-town assignments as needed.
