Job Description
Job Overview Safely operate a yard truck (shuttle truck) throughout the mill yard. Back trailers into designated loading and unloading bays with precision and care. Move loaded and empty trailers as directed by supervisors or production personnel. Monitor trailer locations and ensure trailers are positioned correctly for production needs. Communicate with sawmill personnel, loaders, and supervisors to coordinate trailer movements. Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of assigned equipment. Keep the shuttle truck clean inside and out and report any maintenance or repair needs promptly. Fuel equipment as needed and ensure all fluid levels are maintained. Follow all company safety policies, traffic rules, and yard speed limits. Maintain awareness of pedestrians, forklifts, loaders, and other mobile equipment operating in the yard. Report unsafe conditions, equipment damage, accidents, or near misses immediately. Assist with other yard or production-related duties as assigned. Qualifications Valid driver's license required (CDL preferred or as required by company policy). Experience operating commercial trucks or heavy equipment preferred. Ability to safely back trailers into confined spaces. Good communication and teamwork skills. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and climb in and out of equipment multiple times throughout the shift. Physical Requirements Frequent sitting, climbing, bending, walking, and standing. Ability to work around moving equipment, noise, dust, and changing weather conditions. Ability to safely perform repetitive tasks throughout a 10-12-hour shift as scheduled. Working Conditions Outdoor industrial sawmill environment. Exposure to dust, noise, vibration, heat, cold, and rain. Requires constant attention to surroundings and adherence to safety procedures. Performance Expectations Operate equipment safely with zero preventable accidents. Maintain efficient trailer flow to minimize production delays. Complete equipment inspections daily. Keep assigned equipment clean and in good operating condition. Demonstrate dependable attendance and punctuality. Maintain a positive attitude and work effectively with supervisors and coworkers.
