Duties Safely operate a range of commercial trucks, adhering strictly to all traffic laws and safety protocols. Load, unload, and secure waste materials or utility equipment efficiently using appropriate mechanical tools like front-end loaders when necessary. Follow designated routes for municipal waste management or utility service delivery, ensuring timely pickups and drop-offs. Conduct routine vehicle inspections to identify mechanical issues early; perform basic maintenance or report repairs needed to maintain optimal vehicle performance. Comply with all DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations, state transportation laws, hazardous materials regulations, and air brake standards during daily operations. Provide excellent customer service by interacting professionally with clients during pickups or service visits, addressing questions or concerns courteously. Maintain accurate logs of routes driven, loads delivered or collected, and vehicle inspections in accordance with safety and compliance standards. Skills Proven experience operating heavy-duty trucks such as garbage trucks (front loader, rear loader), roll-off trucks, or similar commercial vehicles. Strong knowledge of traffic laws, DOT regulations, hazardous materials handling, and safety protocols essential for outdoor work environments. Mechanical aptitude to perform basic troubleshooting and maintenance on trucks; familiarity with manual transmissions preferred. Excellent driving skills with a clean record in commercial truck driving; defensive driving skills are a must. Ability to lift heavy loads safely and perform physically demanding tasks regularly in outdoor settings. Knowledge of solid waste management practices or municipal waste operations is highly desirable. Exceptional customer service skills combined with clear communication abilities to interact effectively with clients and team members.
