Duties Safely operate transit vehicles such as paratransit vans Conduct thorough vehicle inspections before and after shifts to ensure safety and compliance with DRPT (Department of Rail & Public Transportation) regulations and vehicle maintenance standards. Assist passengers with boarding and alighting, including providing special needs assistance and passenger safety support. Navigate city streets efficiently while maintaining awareness of traffic laws and transportation safety regulations. Communicate effectively with dispatchers via two-way radios for driver updates, route adjustments, or emergency situations. Follow all traffic laws, defensive driving principles, and state transportation regulations to ensure passenger safety at all times. Respond appropriately to adverse weather conditions or traffic disruptions to maintain schedule integrity. Maintain accurate logs of trips, vehicle inspections, and any incidents or safety concerns during shifts. Support vehicle maintenance by reporting mechanical issues promptly to ensure continued safe operation. Experience Knowledge of mechanical systems related paratransit vehicles. Familiarity with traffic laws, vehicle inspections, and transportation safety regulations is essential. Demonstrated ability to navigate city streets confidently while maintaining situational awareness. Strong communication skills for effective interaction with passengers of diverse needs and coordination with dispatch teams. Experience operating two-way radios for driver communication during shifts. Prior experience with passenger assistance programs or working with individuals with special needs is a plus.
