Job Description
Posting Details Posting Detail Information Student Requisition Number 2027106STP Job Title Peer Mentor, Flight School Peer Mentorship Program Number of Positions Available 20 Funded by Federal Workstudy only No Description of Job Duties and Responsibilities Fairmont State is piloting a "Flight School" peer mentorship program which aims to provide support and guidance to students new to the university. Peer mentors will work serve as a resource to students. Peer Mentors are expected to attend training and lead 5 peer mentorship sessions throughout the academic year. Peer Mentors will be paid a stipend of $240 for their participation in the program.
Peer Mentor duties include:
- Attending 2 hour training (date TBD, September)
- Leading 5 mentorship meetings throughout the academic year; each meeting will include 4-6 student mentees
- Peer mentors are expected to follow meeting outlines, as provided by Student Directors, prepare for meetings in advance and track mentee attendance.
- Conducting periodic checks ins (phone, text, email) with mentees
- Providing feedback to Student Directors Must be a current Fairmont State student in good academic and disciplinary standing.
Minimum Qualifications Preferred qualifications:
- Excellent verbal communication skills
- Experience in group leadership and facilitation, able to speak in front of a group
- Experience in a leadership or mentorship role
- Experience as a First Flight leader or similar role at Fairmont State
- Good listener
- Open minded. Works amicably with a diverse population.
- Able to approach student concerns with maturity, respect and resourcefulness
- Maintains confidentiality with sensitive student information/circumstances.
