Job Description

Truck Driver Public Works - Street Department The City of Weirton is accepting applications for the position of Truck Driver within its Street Department. The Street Department Truck Driver operates trucks to plow snow, transports equipment, materials and/or work crews to assigned locations, and provides general labor on job sites and/or projects. Employees are given specific assignments by a foreman or supervisor for their daily work activities. Employee is responsible for the operation of City vehicles and equipment, general labor activities, and other duties assigned, including
  • Assisting in the work of a crew, such as cleaning streets and storm sewers, laying storm sewer pipe, patching and paving road surfaces.
  • Operating a dump truck, haul sand, gravel, cement, stone, dirt and other materials on various projects. Operate a truck to plow and salt icy and/or snow-covered roads.
  • Using Tow trailers, compressors, pressure washer, rollers and other equipment.
  • Performing daily vehicle inspection of the assigned equipment/truck and maintain accurate logbooks.
  • Completing work orders, daily work sheets, vehicle repair orders and other required records.
  • Performing general labor for specific jobs. Examples are cutting grass, weed cutting, landscaping, painting and janitorial functions.
  • Emergency callouts and scheduled callouts will be required when determined necessary by the Foreman, Superintendent and/or the Director.
  • All other tasks as assigned by the Superintendent and/or Director.
Applicant must be at least 18 years of age, have at least year experience in the operation of a single chassis truck or a vehicle of equal complexity, the ability to make minor motor vehicle repairs, knowledge of area geography and State of WV traffic laws, must be in good physical condition and able to work during periods of adverse weather conditions. The applicant must possess and maintain a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL), and must pass a pre-employment physical examination, including drug and alcohol screening. Work will require the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
