DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS
This is high level technical and administrative work to assist in directing the activities of the Traffic Systems Unit of the Public Works Department. This requires leadership and communications skills to direct daily activities in the areas of traffic signal operations and maintenance. This position is in the Traffic Systems Unit, reports to the Traffic Signal Supervisor, which is under the Engineering Division of the Public Works Department. Generally, the hiring range is $65,991- 82,489 annually.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
(The following examples are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive.) Assists the Traffic Signal Supervisor in directing the installation, operation and maintenance of traffic signals as well as other traffic control devices on County roadways. Organizes crews for daily activities based on direction from the Traffic Signal Supervisor. Inspects traffic signals and other traffic control devices to ensure compliance with the Manual on Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) for all County roadways. Assists with the training of others in the use of traffic signal controllers, central signal systems software and other computer devices as well as develop programs to assist with the duties of the unit. Assists with the design review, traffic control plan review and construction plan review for the installation of traffic signals. Develops and maintains many of the record systems for tracking traffic signal material inventories, work-orders, etc. Locates applicable training courses for traffic signal personnel and makes recommendations to the Traffic Signal Supervisor. Serves as part of the on-call staff for emergencies, carrying a pager/phone for a week at a time.OTHER DUTIES
Assists Traffic Services Unit with signing and other duties during emergencies as needed. Other duties as assigned.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION and/orEXPERIENCE
Generally, a high school diploma or GED. Four years of field experience or education involving the MUTCD, including design, installation, operation, maintenance of traffic signals, and signing/striping as it applies to signalized intersections. One year of supervisory or lead work experience or any equivalent combination. A combination of education and experience may be considered.CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS
Must possess a State of Colorado Class (B) Commercial Driver License upon hire. Review of motor vehicle record is required at time of hire and periodically throughout employment. Incumbents in this position must meet the Department of Transportation physical exam and drug and alcohol testing requirements. Requires IMSA Level II- Traffic Signal Technician (Bench), IMSA Level II
- Traffic Signal Electrician (Field). IMSA Level I (Level II preferred)
- Signs & Markings Certification.
