Job Description

MAJOR FUNCTIONS
Assist Traffic Control Supervisor with office management practices. In the absence of the Traffic Control Supervisor, dispatch sign installation staff to routine and/or emergency situations and distribute work assignments per the Supervisor's instructions. Verify accuracy of work submitted by sign technicians. Update and maintain spreadsheets for sign maintenance. Track sign fabrication orders for internal and external customers.
ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES
Assist the Traffic Control Supervisor with office management practices Assist the Traffic Control Supervisor with processing sign work orders and invoices Assist the Traffic Control Supervisor in tracking employees' information, including leave time, evaluations, workers compensation information, etc. Maintain computer databases and spreadsheets, including employee training, certifications Schedule required employee CDL physicals Coordinate the repair and maintenance of county vehicles assigned to the Traffic Section May provide unskilled laboring tasks to support the fabrication of traffic control signs May investigate questions or complaints from citizens related to traffic sign installation, and communicate with them via telephone, personal contact and correspondence Confer with Traffic Control Supervisor and others to resolve problems Guide citizens according to established procedures, providing information as directed Provide citizens with prompt and courteous response to requests Perform and coordinate work and procedures Operate typewriter, personal computer and/or remote computer terminals Responsible for establishing and maintaining office files May provide administrative assistance, including filing and record keeping, to other groups within the Traffic Section of Roads & Drainage Performs other related duties as required
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Knowledge of modern office and record keeping methods, practices and procedures Ability to work independently and adhere to prescribed routines Must be proficient in the use of currently utilized personal computer software Ability to maintain effective working relationships with employees and the general public Ability to assimilate effectively both verbal and written Ability to walk, bend, stoop, sit, stand, crouch, or kneel Must be able to push, pull, lift, and/or carry materials of five (5) pounds or greater with the maximum weight being fifty (50) pounds of weight Ability to see, talk, hear, sit, ambulate independently, perform tasks that require eye and hand coordination, make written notes, perform data entry keying efforts, and communicate effectively both orally and in writing
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduate of an accredited high school or possess an acceptable equivalent diploma and have a minimum of three (3) years clerical office experience Must be able to utilize all features of required software and personal computers utilized by the assigned work unit Must have a valid driver's license and be able to secure a valid Florida driver's license at the time of employment within this classification A comparable amount of related training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications Special Requirements This position may be required to report for work when a declaration of emergency has been declared in Polk County.
