Job Description

Assist and perform a variety of manual labor tasks in and around traffic signs, painting traffic markings and installing mastic and heat applied street markings in support of Traffic Engineering. This is a Training and Certification Program position. Job descriptions are intended to present a general list of tasks/duties performed by employees within this job classification. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Essential functions may include but are not limited to the functions listed below. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation. Assist with the installation and maintenance of street name signs, regulatory signs, and way-finding and informational signs. Assist with the placement of barricades and various traffic control devices. Assist in the painting of curbs, stripes, and other markings. Assist in the installation of mastic or heat markings in the street. Move, load and unload equipment and materials; operate hand tools, power tools, city vehicles and other equipment including but not limited to lift and boom trucks. Provide general cleanup and debris removal; work with concrete and related items in sidewalks and drives. Perform related duties and responsibilities by assisting Traffic Signs and Markings Technicians along with supervision in various duties, as needed and required.
SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS
Adhere to safe work practices and procedures. High school diploma or GED. Experience with MS Word and Excel preferred.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License and a clean driving record. Possession of a valid City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire. May be required to have a passing grade on a standard mechanical aptitude test.
Environmental:
Exposure to loud noises, dust, vibrations, all weather conditions and hours of the day; traffic, high speed roads, heavy vehicles; work in the vicinity of high voltage electrical equipment.
Physical:
Essential and supplemental functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, walking or standing for prolonged periods and ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
