POSITION SUMMARY
The Traffic Signal Installer assembles, wires, and installs traffic signal systems, pedestrian push buttons, detection devices, and related equipment according to engineered layouts and specifications. This role works with overhead and underground wiring, operates bucket trucks and aerial lifts, and ensures all installations meet MUTCD, OSHA, and project standards. Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions and requires technical skill, physical stamina, and strict adherence to electrical and aerial safety practices.
YOUR ROLE
Read and interpret intersection layouts, engineered schematics, and overhead signal plans. Install and wire traffic signal heads, pedestrian push buttons, and detection devices per project specifications. Pull, route, and splice overhead and underground wires through conduit systems, maintaining correct color coding and terminations. Assemble and install signal poles, mast arms, and brackets using proper hardware, torque specifications, and rigging techniques. Install and configure detection systems, controllers, cabinets, and battery backup systems to ensure continuous operation. Operate bucket trucks and aerial lifts to position and adjust traffic signals, ensuring correct orientation and visibility. Perform voltage, continuity, and signal testing using multimeters and other diagnostic tools. Follow MUTCD, OSHA, and company standards for aerial work, electrical safety, and traffic control. Maintain neat and organized wiring inside cabinets, junction boxes, and poles. Assist with material staging, inventory management, and loading/unloading of poles, arms, and cabinets. Document installations, inspections, and adjustments in project logs or digital tools. Identify and report layout discrepancies, material needs, or safety hazards to the Foreman or Leadman immediately. Perform traffic control and flagging duties as required to ensure the safety of workers, equipment, and the traveling public.
WHAT YOU BRING 1-5
years of experience in traffic signal installation, electrical work, or related construction trade. Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, electrical schematics, and riser diagrams. Knowledge of MUTCD, OSHA, and TxDOT traffic signal installation standards preferred. Skilled in the safe use of bucket trucks, aerial lifts, and basic rigging practices. Proficient with hand tools, power tools, and electrical testing equipment. Strong attention to detail and ability to work at heights. Commitment to following safety protocols, including PPE, aerial safety, and electrical hazard prevention. Must have a valid Drivers License.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work is performed outdoors year-round in all conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and other harsh weather. Must be able to stand, climb, bend, kneel, and perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods. Regularly lifts and carries up to 50 lbs. and occasionally up to 100 lbs. with assistance while handling poles, mast arms, equipment, and materials. Must tolerate exposure to dust, noise, vibration, and work at heights in bucket trucks or aerial lifts.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
May require travel within Texas. Overnight or out-of-town stays may be needed based on project location.
