Job Duties and Preferred Qualifications :
The City of Virginia Beach Department of Public Works is looking for a Traffic Signs and Marking Aide . The selected candidate will work in the Traffic Management Operations group.
Duties to include:
Assist in the installation and maintenance of work zone traffic control devices used for emergency detours and provide traffic control support during large Special Events. Assist in the installation and maintenance of highway traffic signs. Assist with the fabrication of highway traffic signs using specialized equipment and machines. Assist with the installation and maintenance of roadway pavement markings using specialized equipment and machines. Assist in maintaining accurate records of inventory materials/supplies used to fill out daily work assignments. Assist in the collection and maintenance of sign inventory data. Perform other job duties requiring skills, knowledge, and physical requirements as deemed by those duties described or less. Individual assignments will be deemed by the supervisor based on the current workloads and department needs.

  • Friday; 6:30 am
  • 5 pm, some weekends and nights based on event schedule Must possess a valid VA or NC driver's license Successful completion of a pre-employment physical is required
NOTE:
This is an Alpha I position and is required to work in excess of their normally scheduled days/hours during all inclement weather (flooding, hurricanes, and snow), and/or in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. This position is open until filled. Applications will be reviewed, and interviews will be conducted on an ongoing basis until the position has been filled. Once a candidate has been selected, the position will close.

Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must have a current and valid driver's license.
Special Requirements:
All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. This position may require that incumbents to wear and maintain appropriate personal protective equipment such as, but not limited to, steel toed shoes, hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, or other safety attire and equipment in designated areas of risk. Specific requirements will be determined and communicated by the employee's supervisor based on position assigned. A valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL) may be required. This position may be designated as a safety sensitive position and be subject to mandatory drug testing. Positive drug test results may result in counseling and/or discipline, up to and including, termination. Successful completion of a pre-employment physical.

E VRS Contribution :
All full-time employees are required to contribute 5% of annual salary toward their retirement account; in accordance with VRS retirement provisions. This will be handled through a pre-tax payroll deduction.
