Job Description

Job Overview:
As a Mechanic at our organization, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and repairing transit buses and related equipment to ensure the smooth operation of public transportation services. This position offers a dynamic work environment with opportunities for career growth and development.
Responsibilities:
  • Perform major mechanical work such as rebuilds and overhauls on transit buses and maintenance shop equipment.
  • Diagnose, identify, and repair major defects on all systems/components of transit buses and fleet vehicles.
  • Conduct bus inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs on passenger coaches.
  • Utilize shop tools, diagnostic equipment, and technical information for inspections, maintenance, and repairs on various vehicles.
  • Reference vehicle manuals to troubleshoot malfunctions and perform necessary repairs.
  • Prepare written reports documenting defects and repairs on inspection forms and work orders.
  • Provide guidance to other mechanics on proper equipment use and mechanical duties.
  • Communicate task/job status through written, verbal, and electronic forms.
  • Work varying shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays at different facilities.
Skills:
  • Five (5) years of full-time journey-level experience in automotive or transit vehicle maintenance.
  • Valid Class C California driver's license with the ability to obtain a Class B permit with Air Brake and Passenger Endorsements.
  • Ability to obtain a 608 and 609 Air Conditioning Certification within 120 days of hire.
  • Capable of lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment medical examination, drug screen, and background check.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
