Neel-Schaffer is seeking applications from qualified candidates for the position of Rail Engineering Lead to support our growing rail and transportation infrastructure practice in Atlanta, GA. This role will play a key leadership position in managing projects and serving as a primary technical interface with railroad clients. The ideal candidate brings strong experience in public improvement projects affecting railroads, freight rail infrastructure, track engineering, and project delivery, along with the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage client relationships. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer who has worked with Class I railroads or rail consulting firms and is looking to take on a leadership role managing a rail program. Manage railroad public projects through the engineering phase; including leading a team of engineers, leading railroad coordination and leading coordination with state DOTs and municipalities. Overseeing on-site observation for railroad public projects through the construction phase; including coordinating with contractors and owners and making site visits as required. Serve as a primary technical liaison with Norfolk Southern and other rail stakeholders. Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, and deliverables for rail engineering assignments. Provide technical leadership in track design, rail infrastructure, and railroad standards compliance. Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including civil, structural, and transportation engineers. Support business development efforts and help expand the firm's rail practice. Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the growth of the rail engineering team. Lead rail engineering projects supporting freight rail infrastructure improvements and capital programs.Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline. 8+ years of experience in rail engineering or railroad infrastructure projects. Experience working with public projects eight railroads or rail consulting projects. Knowledge of track design, rail corridor improvements, and railroad standards. Strong project management and client communication skills.Preferred:
Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain. Experience working with Norfolk Southern or other Class I railroads. Background in public projects plan review, construction on-site observation, track design, rail bridge design, corridor planning, or railroad operations.
