Job Description

Position Summary We are seeking an experienced Evening Welding Instructor to teach a 15‑hour Introduction to Welding course designed for adult learners in the community. This hands‑on, one‑week course introduces students to foundational welding and cutting skills, safety practices, and basic theory. We typically offer three one‑week sessions per semester , and scheduling is flexible based on instructor availability. The ideal candidate is a skilled welder with a strong commitment to safety, clear communication, and the ability to teach beginners in a supportive, engaging environment. Course Overview The Introduction to Welding course provides students with essential knowledge and practical experience in: Welding and cutting safety Oxyfuel cutting Arc cutting Air‑carbon arc washing and gouging Base metal preparation Weld inspection fundamentals Basic oxy‑acetylene welding Basic shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) Filler metals, electrodes, and joint design Instruction includes lecture, class discussion, group discussion, critical thinking exercises, lab/shop practice, and hands‑on application activities . Key Responsibilities Teach and demonstrate safe and proper use of welding and cutting equipment, PPE, and shop procedures. Deliver instruction aligned with course objectives, including: Oxyfuel cutting techniques Arc cutting procedures Air‑carbon arc washing and gouging Base metal cleaning and preparation Basic oxy‑acetylene and SMAW welding skills Weld inspection for quality and code adherence Filler metals, electrodes, and joint design Provide hands‑on guidance and supervision during lab/shop activities. Foster a positive, inclusive learning environment for adult learners. Assess student progress through practical demonstrations and class participation. Maintain a safe, organized welding lab and ensure proper equipment use. Collaborate with program staff to schedule course sessions each semester. Required Qualifications Significant welding experience in industry, fabrication, or related fields. Proficiency in oxyfuel cutting, SMAW, and general welding safety practices. Ability to teach and demonstrate welding techniques clearly and safely. Strong communication skills and comfort working with adult learners. Commitment to maintaining a safe instructional environment. Preferred Qualifications Prior teaching, training, or mentoring experience. Familiarity with adult education or community education settings. Knowledge of welding codes, inspection practices, and industry standards. AWS certifications (CWE, CWI, or process‑specific certifications) are a plus. Work Schedule Evening classes, one week per session (15 total instructional hours). Three sessions offered per semester. Scheduling is flexible and coordinated with instructor availability.
