Key responsibilities may include:
Inspecting railcar frames , bodies, safety appliances (hand holds, sill steps, running boards, etc.), and wheels (rim treads, plates, hub axles and bearing) for holes, cracks, and other defects to ensure good repair of equipment. Maintaining , replacing, inspecting, and repairing air brake components and ensuring air brake system equipment is compliant with current regulations. Operating electrical and gas welding equipment and acetylene/MAPP torches to join a variety of metals and alloys as well as cutting and shaping metal parts. Operating specialized off-highway motor vehicles (forklifts, mobile cranes, track mobiles, and UTVs). Daily work is conducted in a safety sensitive environment where the working conditions can include diverse and extreme weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, and sleet) , walking and performing work on uneven surfaces, working on or around loud noises, fumes, and heavy/moving machinery.
