Full-Time | On-Site Turn Your Welding & Mechanical Experience into a Rail Career Road & Rail Services is hiring a skilled Railcar Repair Mechanic with a strong background in mechanical repair, welding, fabrication, and troubleshooting . We are looking for mechanically experienced candidates who understand how to diagnose problems, work with metal, operate tools, and complete repairs safely and correctly. If your background includes stick welding, MIG welding, metal fabrication, industrial maintenance, diesel mechanics, heavy equipment repair, automotive repair, manufacturing maintenance, or similar skilled trades , your experience could be a great fit. What You'll Do As a Railcar Repair Mechanic, you will: Inspect railcars for mechanical defects, structural damage, wear, and fatigue Diagnose mechanical issues and determine appropriate repairs Perform authorized railcar repairs according to customer and AAR requirements Complete welding, cutting, grinding, fitting, and metal fabrication work Repair, adjust, remove, and replace damaged mechanical components Use cutting torches and welding equipment when qualified Operate hand, power, and pneumatic tools including grinders, impact tools, pipe wrenches, pry bars, sockets, and ratchets Inspect completed repairs for quality and proper operation Operate tractors, ATVs, and other site equipment as required Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas Follow all company, customer, and applicable industry safety procedures Physical & Work Requirements This is an active outdoor repair position. Employees must be able to bend, squat, twist, stand, climb, and walk throughout the shift. Work may require climbing ladders exceeding 16 feet and working in heat, cold, rain, dust, and noisy industrial conditions. Railcar doors may require approximately 90 pounds of pulling force and 68 pounds of pushing force. Employees must be comfortable working independently and safely around heavy equipment. A valid driver's license may be required to operate company equipment.
