Job Description

Introduction This recruitment is for a Public Service Commission Common Carrier Inspector position with the Maryland Public Service Commission.\r\n GRADE 12\r\n
LOCATION OF POSITION
Public Service Commission\r\n6 Saint Paul Street�\r\nBaltimore, MD 21202\r\n
POSITION DUTIES
Inspection Duties\r\n\r\n\r\nA. Inspect for-hire passenger carrying vehicles including buses, vans, limousines, and automobiles to determine if each vehicle is in compliance with the laws and regulations contained in the Public Utility Companies Article of the Annotated Code of Maryland, Title 11 and Title 20 of the Code of Maryland Regulations, Title 22 of the Transportation Article of the Annotated Code of Maryland and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.\r\n\r\n\r\nB. Inspect for-hire passenger carriers' records to determine the effectiveness of its Preventive Maintenance Program for vehicle( s) which it operates and/or for its system of monitoring the qualifications and hours of service of its drivers.�\r\n\r\n\r\nC. Educate carriers of the requirements and standards of the Federal and State safety regulations.�\r\n\r\n\r\nD. Remain current and certified by the Maryland State Police to perform safety inspections on all appropriate vehicles in accordance with the North American Standards. Prepare forms and memorandum for review concerning vehicle inspections, preventive maintenance, and other matters concerning vehicle safety.�\r\n\r\n\r\nJoint Safety Inspection Initiatives�\r\n\r\n\r\nParticipate in joint safety initiatives such as the National Passenger Carrier Strike Force ('Strike Force'), roadside safety enforcement, and periodic motor coach investigation at sporting events as part of the Maryland Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program (MCSAP). \r\n
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
�� Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate. \r\n
Experience:
Four years of experience in the repair and maintenance of gasoline or diesel-powered motor vehicles or in the inspection of such vehicles for the purpose of ensuring their safe operating condition. \r\n
Notes:
\r\n1. Candidates may substitute additional experience as described above on a year-for-year basis for the required education.\r\n2.�Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in�Diesel�Mechanic classifications or Vehicle System/Tank Maintainer or Fire Control/Tank Vehicle Repairs or Vehicle/Vehicle�Equipment Maintenance specialty codes in the vehicle mechanics field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.\r\n
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland. \r\n
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Employees in this classification must successfully complete the North American Standard Vehicle Inspection training course as prescribed by the Superintendent of the Maryland State Police during the probationary period. \r\n
