JMT's Asheville Construction Management Team is seeking a Utility Transportation Technician II to apply standard inspection procedures for multiple NCDOT project coordinating the installation and or relocation of both overhead and underground utilities throughout Division 11. Division 11 covers Alleghany, Ashe, Caldwell, Surry, Watauga, Wilkes, and Yadkin Counties. Ideal candidate must have excellent communication skills, comfortable with speaking with contractor personnel and the public.
Position summary:
Full-time, long-term, permanent position. Applies standard inspection and utility coordination for NCDOT Contracts during and after construction for structural quality, general safety, and conformance to plans, specifications, and codes. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Review NCDOT Utility By Other Plans Coordinate and oversee the relocation and or installation of wet, dry, underground and overhead utilities. Perform coordination, inspection and documentation of utility contractor's operations on an all types of utilities for new and on-going NCDOT projects in Division 11. Documenting and verifying conformance to plans and specifications. Will be required to review NCDOT encroachments and complicated utility plans. Must have a knowledge of traffic control installation practices and will be required to review contractor provided traffic control. Perform routine material testing Measure and track quantities of pay items Gather and maintain record documents including material certifications, testing reports, and inspector's daily diaries Perform other related duties as assigned Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities Perform other related duties as assigned Required Skills Must have the ability to effectively communicate with contractors and the public. Must successfully complete and pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screening Required Experience High school diploma or equivalent Active driver's license 2+ years of construction inspection experience on transportation projects or utility inspection, installation, or location 4+ years of utility construction experience on transportation projects preferred Working Conditions Work is performed in the field. Ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs. as needed. Work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
