Transportation Maintenance Tech IPerforms routine transportation operations or maintenance support work such as roadway maintenance and repair; light and heavy equipment operation; preventive and minor maintenance on equipment; traffic control; and helping the public during emergency situations. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.



Transportation Maintenance Tech IIPerforms moderately complex transportation operations or maintenance support work such as maintenance contract inspection and material and process inspections; roadway maintenance and repair; light and heavy equipment operation; preventive and minor maintenance on equipment, traffic control; and helping the public during emergency situations. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.

Essential Duties:

Transportation Maintenance Tech IAssists in identifying, repairing and installing signs, delineators, mailbox supports and posts; performs basic welding as needed; as required uses/moves equipment/tools, materials and products related to these activities.



Assists in providing support to local law enforcement officials at accident sites; assists stranded motorists as required.



Assists with traffic control; places and gathers cones, warning signs and barricades; flags traffic.



Determines placement of traffic control devices and installs/moves devices. Maintains highways and rights-of-way; performs roadway repairs; erects and repairs guard rails, highway markers and signs; hauls materials and equipment to job sites. Move/picks up litter and roadway debris. Operates light equipment such as a front-end loader-one and a quarter cubic yard or less, pneumatic roller, rotary broom, spreader box, backhoe, street sweeper, and mower.



Maintains construction project records and processes related paperwork. Performs other job responsibilities as assigned Transportation Maintenance Tech IIIncludes all essential duties listed for Transportation Maintenance Tech I as well as:



Serves as the only maintenance contract inspector on a small project.



Inspects materials, equipment, and production procedures in a manufacturing plant or at point of supply to ensure construction materials meet Department specifications. Maintains construction project records and/or bridge inspection records; processes related paperwork; reviews files for compliance with the bridge inspection Manual of Procedures.



Reviews plans, enters data and updates, stores and maintains plans, specifications, and estimate (PS&E) documents and files; assists in PS&E processing for letting, to include reproducing and distributing documents.



Reviews proposed construction plans, specifications, and estimate (PS&E) and supporting documents for accuracy and completeness to ensure compliance with state and federal laws, policies, procedures, and design guidelines.



Inspects routine and non-routine maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications.



Inspects barricades to ensure compliance with barricade standards.



Operates heavy equipment such as a front-end loader one and a half cubic yards or more, tractor-trailer haul truck, large dragline, shovel, paint striper, and dump truck.



Performs preventive maintenance inspections (PMI), routine servicing and minor repairs on equipment and completes various required reports including time-keeping, equipment forms, inventory, accident forms, and PMI.Sands or cleans bridges and roads, posts warning signs, helps the public and performs other work as directed during emergency situations such as floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, snowstorms, accidents, and hazardous material spills. Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
