Length of Work Year 12 months Employment Type Part Time Job Summary Job Summary Part-Time Maintenance/School Bus Driver - 6 hours daily. Responsibilities Perform school maintenance and school bus driver duties in accordance with district practices. Perform other responsibilities as identified by the position's job description. Benefits Length of work year is approximately 260 work days within a 12 month calendar. This position includes all legally mandated benefits applicable to part-time employees, including the accrual of up to twelve (12) sick leave and twelve (12) vacation days per year. Essential Elements:
Print Custodial/Maintenance Under the direction of the Superintendent and/or designee, performs grounds services, minor repair and maintenance duties, clean classrooms, offices, cafeterias and other facilities of an assigned school during an assigned shift; perform minor repair and maintenance and assure security of school during assigned hours. Representative Duties Perform grounds services including mowing, edging and weeding as assigned. Perform minor, semi-skilled maintenance and repair to doors, windows, light fixtures and other facilities as needed. Clean classrooms, offices, cafeterias and other facilities of an assigned school during an assigned shift. Sweep, scrub, mop, wax and polish floors and vacuum rugs and carpets in classrooms, offices and other work areas. Assure security of school during assigned hours; lock gates, doors and windows; tum off lights when room is not in use. Monitor facilities for fire hazards and report to appropriate personnel as required. Dust and polish furniture, light fixtures and woodwork; clean chalkboards, trays and erasers; empty pencil sharpeners. Empty and clean the waste receptacles; refill dispensers. Clean, scrub and disinfect student and staff restrooms; wash windows and walls; polish metal work, clean sinks, mirrors and other bathroom fixtures; restock paper supplies and soap as necessary; clean drinking fountains, Adjust and arrange furniture and equipment; set up school facilities for special events and meetings. Operate and maintain a variety of custodial equipment including a floor stripper, buffer, carpet shampooer, vacuum cleaner, and small power and hand tools; replace belts and bags on vacuum cleaners as necessary. Pick up paper and other debris from grounds and buildings. Assist with minor grounds maintenance or general maintenance of the school building such as painting as required. Replace lights, adjust shades or blinds or adjust desks and other furniture. Refinish desks and furniture as assigned. Perform related duties as assigned.
Knowledge of:
Modem groundskeeping, simple maintenance, and cleaning methods and the preferred methods of cleaning and preserving floors, walls and fixtures and surrounding areas. Cleaning materials, disinfectants and equipment used in custodial work; safety practices and work methods. Policies and objectives of assigned program and activities. Proper lifting techniques.
Ability to:
Learn requirements of maintaining school buildings, grounds, and facilities in a safe, clean and orderly condition. Learn the schedules, procedures and use of groundskeeping, maintenance, and custodial tools and supplies. Use common cleaning equipment and materials in a safe and efficient maimer. Operate a variety of groundskeeping equipment including a mower and trimmer. Operate a variety of custodial equipment including a floor stripper, buffer, carpet shampooer, vacuum cleaner, and small power and hand tools. Operate assigned motor vehicles or equipment. Meet schedules and time lines. Understand and follow oral and written directions. Work cooperatively with others. Complete minor repairs as necessary. Communicate effectively in English.
Physical Abilities:
Pushing, pulling and lifting groundskeeping tools and equipment. Climbing ladders to inspect and replace lights. Lifting and carrying heavy objects. Seeing to perform assigned tasks. Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate small hand and power tools and equipment. Hearing and speaking to exchange information. Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching to assist students. Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally. Education and Experience Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school and sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed above.
Working Conditions Environment:
Indoor and outdoor work environment. Condition of Employment Passing of Written Exam. Successful completion of an Oral Interview. Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Insurability by the District's liability insurance carrier (at regular paid rate). School Bus Driver Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, operate a school bus to transport students safely and efficiently to assigned locations over designated routes. Ensures children are transported to and from school, athletic events, field trips and other activities. Must be able to communicate, in English, both verbally and in writing and demonstrate mechanical skills as needed. Performs related duties as required or assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Five years of valid licensed driving experience required
  • No alcohol/drug related convictions
  • Must not have accrued three (3) points against driver's license within the past two (2) years
  • Lift test, drug/alcohol testing and FBI fingerprint background check required

  • Certified completion of first aid test equivalent to Emergency Medical Services Authority requirement
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
  • Safe and defensive driving practices
  • Proper operation of school buses of various sizes
  • Applicable traffic and student transportation laws, codes and regulations
  • Basic preventive maintenance requirements of automotive equipment
  • Basic record-keeping techniques

  • Applicable sections of the State Education Code and other applicable laws
  • District policies and procedures relative to student discipline
  • Basic first-aid procedures
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Drive a school bus along designated routes according to established time schedules
  • Transport pupils and teachers on various athletic and special event trips
  • Observe legal and defensive driving practices
  • Assuring compliance with applicable traffic and student transportation laws, codes, and regulations
  • Prepare and maintains records and reports regarding mileage, student counts, driving times, and fuel consumption
  • Recommend changes in assigned bus routes and/or student pick-up points
  • Pick up and discharge pupils at designated stops; escort students crossing streets according to established procedures
  • Supervise pupil conduct during transport to assure safe vehicle operation; instruct children in various aspects of passenger and pedestrian safety; prepare student conduct reports as needed
  • Maintain order and discipline among passengers on the bus, and while waiting at student pick-up and delivery locations according to established policies
  • Maintain assigned buses in a clean and safe operating condition; sweeping, washing, and cleaning the vehicle, as well as refueling, servicing, and preparing the vehicle for use in transporting students
  • Conduct daily pre-operative safety inspection on an assigned school bus or buses; inspecting the interior, exterior, braking, and electrical systems, engine, and tires. Notify the Transportation Supervisor or on duty mechanic of any mechanical or safety problems
  • Administer first aid to injured/ill bus passengers as necessary and appropriate
  • Ensure children are transported to and from school, athletic events, field trips and other activities
  • Ensure students are delivered to proper drop-off points and met by parent/ guardian if required
  • Complete the bus safety check off list before driving bus, to ensure Bus is in proper working condition
  • Report repairs needed and add fluids as needed, such as gas, oil and water
  • Update route card as needed; transport children to and from school according to route card(s).
  • Explain and demonstrate evacuation procedures to children in accordance with Transportation Safety Training
  • Operate a two-way radio to maintain contact with dispatcher
  • Operate wheel chair lift and ensures children are safely secured on bus as appropriate; Load and unload children who are confined to wheelchairs
  • Attend and participate in transportation safety and in-service training workshops and meetings.
  • Communicate with school personnel as needed, such as with principals, teachers, and classroom campus assistants
  • Maintain a personal driving record that reflects the requirements of bus driver licensing requirements
  • Serve as a mandated reporter for suspected child abuse
  • Maintain confidentiality of students
  • Perform related duties as assigned
