Job Description

The City of Galesburg seeks interested applicants to fill the position of Handivan Driver in the Department of Community Development. This is a full-time, overtime-eligible, bargaining unit position with a starting hourly pay of $19.47 per hour (Step A). The pay range for this position is $19.47-$24.92. DUTIES OF THE POSITION
Operates a 15-passenger van to transport passengers from door to door to and from various locations in the City. Assists with loading and unloading passengers, some of whom may require simple physical assistance and others who may be wheelchair-bound, requiring the operation of a hydraulic lift. Receives fares, maintains daily driving reports and daily trip tickets, and accounts for cash. Monitors vehicle operation and maintenance to ensure the safety of passengers. May perform dispatch functions which include receiving and transmitting radio calls, answering telephones, and scheduling passenger pick-ups. Performs other associated duties as may be assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE A
High School diploma or GED is required. A valid Illinois Driver's License is required. Must have full knowledge of Illinois driving rules and regulations, City of Galesburg traffic and parking ordinances, and be acquainted with city street names and area locations. Experience interacting with the disabled community is a plus. Knowledge of and adherence to City safety procedures and practices are required. Must have the ability to operate a standard 15-passenger van with a hydraulic lift, as well as to establish and maintain a professional relationship with the public and co-workers.
