Full Job Description Position Characteristics:
Under the direction of the Director of Transportation & Fleet, the Van Driver is responsible for providing safe, reliable, timely, and courteous transportation to senior clients and other eligible passengers. This position requires regular interactions with older adults, including individuals with disabilities or mobility limitations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
To reflect in all aspects of job performance the mission of the East Baton Rouge Council on the Aging, Inc. ?serving the elderly in East Baton Rouge Parish, to enrich and enhance their quality of life through advocacy efforts, creative planning, and coordination and provision of needed services, and to make it possible for them to live independent lives as long as possible.? Practice safe driving habits Follow all state and national driving laws, rules, safety regulations and agency policies Follows pre-arranged routes or route adjustments to destinations or use maps and GPS to navigate routes timely and consistently Open van doors and assisting passengers/loading cargo/loading baggage Keep interior of van clean of debris and clutter as well as maintaining vehicle upkeep and cleanliness during pre and post trips Loading, unloading and securing a wheelchair lift Complete documentation such as logs, mileage, or cargo and passenger reports Follow schedules and rerouting in timely manner when faced with traffic or congestion Provides clear and concise communicates to dispatcher and supervisor on routes issues or changes as provided in the department policy Participate in workshops and seminars for the purpose of increasing performance, safety and efficiency in the transportation department Attend periodic driver safety meeting for all van driver Participate in emergency drills relative to transportation situations Performs other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of and orientation to the philosophy of the EBRCOA as presented in its mission/philosophy statements Able to follow verbal directions, read maps, follow GPS Able to work well alone Reliable and punctual with a dedicated professionalism to job and duties Able to adapt to changing schedules or routines Excellent time management skills Able to assist passengers when needed Organized and able to follow a schedule Focus on customer service Positive attitude and professional demeanor
Physical Task:
Physically able to lift and carry object up from 30 to 50 pounds Physically able to reach, stretch, bend and sit for long periods of time during daily routine
Other Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent; relevant experience; or knowledge, skills and mental ability equivalent to 2 years of high school education Valid driver?s license and clean driving record with at least 2 years of passenger transport experience. Able to operate a wheelchair lift and secure a wheelchair Satisfactory criminal background check, sex offender registry clearance and drug screening Able to work some nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
