Job Description

Overview Join our dedicated team as a School Van Driver who hold a valid MA driver license and "7D" certification, and play a vital role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and comfortable transportation of students to and from school. Responsibilities Safely operate school vans and transit vehicles in accordance with traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations. Assist students with boarding and exiting the vehicle, including providing wheelchair assistance when needed. Maintain a vigilant focus on passenger safety by following emergency response procedures for transportation and implementing defensive driving techniques. Communicate effectively with students, parents, school staff, and dispatchers to ensure smooth daily operations. Respond quickly to traffic changes, road conditions, or emergencies with appropriate action such as emergency stops or rerouting. Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles to ensure they are in excellent working condition. Manage student behavior professionally using behavior management techniques and enforce school policies related to transportation. Complete accurate logs of routes, incidents, and vehicle maintenance reports while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism. Must pass a pre-employment drug screening, background check and be willing to submit to random drug testing per DOT requirements. Requirements Must hold a valid Massachusetts Driver's License with 7D Certification. Must have a clean driving record for a minimum of five years. Experience Proven experience in bus driving, school bus driving, or transit bus operation is highly preferred. Knowledge of traffic laws, emergency response procedures for transportation, and transportation safety regulations is essential. Experience working with children or in a customer service environment demonstrates your ability to connect with students and parents effectively. Ability to lift heavy objects safely when assisting students or handling equipment; physical stamina is important. Multilingual skills or experience working with diverse populations can enhance communication with students and families from different backgrounds. Strong writing skills for completing reports accurately; excellent communication skills are necessary for clear interaction with team members and school personnel.
License/Certification:

Pay:
$22.21 - $30.35 per hour
