Duties/Responsibilities:
The Van Driver is responsible for the operation of a multi-passenger chair van, picking up elderly and/or handicapped residents in Town, transporting them to local area destinations, and returning them home while exercising caution and safety. The Van Driver is required to perform all similar or related duties.
- Operates a multi-passenger transportation van according to the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicle regulations, MART regulations, and in accordance with scheduling as set by the Council on Aging Director.
- Maintains vehicle, making sure that fuel supply is adequate, checks engine oil and transmission fluid routinely, and makes sure that routine vehicle service schedules are conducted on a timely basis in coordination with MART, reporting on status daily.
- Transports elderly and handicapped to regular medical appointments, shopping, to attend programs at the Senior Center, and on pre-arranged field trips; ensures client privacy.
- Maintains detailed record of vehicle mileage, vehicle service schedules, fuel consumption, trip reports, etc.
- Provides written and oral reports as required pertaining to client usage and activity levels.
- Required to attend training classes and staff meetings in order to maintain certification and licenses as required and to maintain knowledge of current driving laws and multi-passenger van transportation operating practices.
- Performs other related job duties as required.
Education/Other Requirements:
High School diploma or equivalent and at least 1 year of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, certification, and experience.
Special Requirements:
CORI certification is required as a condition of employment. Employee must have a valid Massachusetts Driver's License and complete the training requirements of FRTA such as motor vehicle wheel chair; Certification as a CPR and First Aid is required.
