906-387-2963 Job Summary ALTRAN is seeking a dependable and safety-focused full-time Bus Driver to transport passengers throughout Alger County and surrounding service areas. The position primarily works Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend shifts. Under the supervision of the Executive Director and Operations Manager, the Bus Driver provides safe, efficient, and courteous transportation to the general public. This position regularly assists older adults and passengers with disabilities, including individuals who use wheelchairs or other mobility devices. Essential Duties Safely transport passengers to and from various locations using buses, vans, and other ALTRAN vehicles. Provide courteous assistance to older adults and passengers with disabilities when boarding and exiting vehicles. Safely operate wheelchair lifts and ramps and assist with mobility-device securement. Complete required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections. Identify and report vehicle defects or maintenance concerns. Follow dispatcher instructions and organize passenger trips efficiently with minimal assistance. Maintain accurate printed and digital driver logs. Collect fares and tickets and verify that passengers pay the correct fare. Follow all traffic laws, public-transit regulations, and ALTRAN safety procedures. Use proper FCC radio procedures when communicating with dispatch. Answer passenger questions and professionally represent ALTRAN. Immediately report all incidents and accidents and accurately complete required documentation. Fuel, wash, sweep, mop, and clean assigned vehicles daily. Assist with cleaning and maintaining ALTRAN facilities and fleet during downtime. Perform other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED equivalent. Valid driver's license with no more than three points on the applicant's driving record. Ability to pass all required MDOT drug-screening protocols and a criminal background check. Ability to participate in mandatory random drug and alcohol testing as a safety-sensitive employee. Knowledge of major and local roads throughout Alger County and surrounding ALTRAN service areas. Ability to safely operate a two-way radio. Knowledge of Michigan traffic laws and regulations. Ability to lift or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Ability to complete an estimated one- to three-month on-the-job training period. Dependable attendance and availability to work occasional weekends.
