Public Safety Shuttle Van Driver Limited Hour Temp Davidson College United States, North Carolina, Davidson 209 Ridge Road (Show on map) Aug 31, 2026 We are seeking a reliable and responsible part-time Van Shuttle Driver to transport students to and from various campus locations during weekend evenings. The ideal candidate will ensure the safety, comfort, and timely transport of students while maintaining a positive and professional demeanor.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safely operate a college van/shuttle along designated routes.
- Pick up and drop off students at specified locations on and around campus.
- Student and luggage shuttles to and from the airport as needed before/after academic breaks and athletic travel.
- Ensure the vehicle is in good working condition, report any maintenance issues, and complete pre- and post-trip inspections.
- Assist students with boarding and ensure all passengers are seated safely.
- Always adhere to traffic and safety regulations.
- Maintain a friendly and professional demeanor with students, faculty, and staff.
- Communicate any delays or issues promptly to the campus transportation office.
- Monitor the shuttle for lost or left-behind personal items and return them if found.
- Follow all college policies and procedures regarding transportation services.
Qualifications:
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Must be at least 21 years old.
- Previous driving experience (preferably with passenger vehicles or shuttle buses).
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Flexibility to work on weekends, evenings, and during college events as needed.
- Familiarity with the campus area and local routes is a plus.
Hours:
- Evening shifts on weekends from 9:00 pm to 2:30 am (Thursday, Friday & Saturday)
- Driver can expect to be scheduled for 25 to 30 hours a month.
- Hours may vary based on the academic calendar and demand, including airport shuttle runs.
Environmental Demands:
- May be required to work in adverse weather conditions.
- May be required to sit and drive for long periods.
- May be exposed to hazardous materials or chemicals.
- Light work, exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
- Must have vision correctable to 20/20 and meet color vision requirements.
- Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions; subject to occasional extreme heat and cold; subject to hazards.
