This vital role involves operating school vans with professionalism, adhering to traffic laws, and prioritizing passenger safety at all times. As a School Van Driver, you will play a key role in creating a positive transportation experience while maintaining the highest safety standards. Duties Safely operate school vans in accordance with all traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations. Transport students to and from school, extracurricular activities, and special events on scheduled routes. Assist students with disabilities or those requiring wheelchair assistance, ensuring proper securement and comfort during transit. Follow emergency response procedures for transportation incidents, including first aid and CPR when necessary. Maintain clear communication with school staff, parents, and dispatchers regarding route updates or delays. Conduct pre-trip vehicle inspections to ensure vehicle safety, including checking brakes, lights, tires, and emergency equipment. Manage student behavior professionally using behavior management techniques to ensure a safe environment for all passengers. Requirements Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for school bus or van operation. Proven experience in bus driving, school bus driving, or transit bus operation preferred. Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations applicable to school transportation. Experience working with children or in childcare environments is highly desirable. Ability to perform heavy lifting when assisting students or handling equipment. Certification in first aid and CPR required; training provided if not already certified. Strong communication skills to interact effectively with students, parents, staff, and emergency responders. Familiarity with emergency stop procedures and child behavior management techniques. Ability to respond quickly to traffic changes and adapt routes as needed for safety and efficiency. Knowledge of state and local commercial driving laws related to passenger transportation.
