Job Description

Position Summary:
Transport clients to and from appointed destinations. Drivers are expected to leave their vehicle and assist all passengers from their residence door to the vehicle door, then from the vehicle door to their destination door. This can include physically supporting clients, assisting with balance, and protecting them from falls. Provide support/assistance to clients who need assistance in and out of vehicles and to and from their home and/or destination.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Lift and lower vehicle ramps as many times as needed throughout work shift. Physically capable of pushing and/or pulling individuals confined in wheelchairs up and down vehicle ramps, residential ramps and ramps located at places of business as many times as needed throughout work shift. Ability to use good judgment and remain calm when driving in unfamiliar areas and during poor driving conditions. Clean out the vehicle every day. Responsible for washing vans as weather permits. Reports any problems with the vans to the Transportation Coordinator or in their absence of the Transportation Scheduler. Reports all accidents and any unusual incidents to Transportation. Coordinator or Executive Director after notifying proper authorities. Fill out daily reports and mileage logs. Maintain vehicles in proper condition; ex. check tires, belts, caps, etc. daily Timely communication with dispatcher whenever it is necessary to leave the vehicle for reasons other than passenger assistance. Request approval from dispatcher prior to any schedule changes. Any other duties your supervisor requires.
Qualifications:
Must have a current valid Ohio Driver's license and a good driving record. Must be courteous with all passengers. Updated 6/2026 Updated 6/1/2026 Must be physically able to perform tasks relating to job; i.e. assisting people in and out of vans, pushing clients confined to a wheelchair, lifting and lowering vehicle ramps with or without accommodations. Must be instructed in Passenger Assistance techniques, Sensitivity to Aging, and Defensive Driving.
Essential Functions:
Physically capable of carrying 30 pounds (groceries, beverages, etc.) from the vehicle to the clients' preferred door. Must be able to tolerate clients who do not practice good hygiene. Must be able to drive safely when there are distractions on the van such as laughing, talking, questions directed to the driver, etc. Must be physically able to perform tasks relating to job; i.e. assisting people in and out of vans, pushing clients confined to a wheelchair, lifting and lowering vehicle ramps with or without accommodations.
Pay:
$11.00 per hour Expected hours: 20.0 - 29.0 per week
