Job Description
The Meadowbrook School is an independent, coeducational day school located on a beautiful 16-acre campus in Abington, Pennsylvania, just north of Philadelphia. The school serves students in Preschool through Grade 6. Founded in 1919, Meadowbrook combines strong academics with a joyful, close-knit community where every child is known and valued. Position Purpose:
Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Afternoon Van Driver plays a vital role in getting students to afterschool activities each day and serves as a trusted, friendly presence during a child's transition from school to activity. This is a part-time, non-exempt position covering a consistent route Monday through Thursday, approximately 3-4 hours per day. General Responsibilities Safely operate the school van along an established, consistent afternoon route Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, reporting any mechanical issues promptly to the Director of Operations Observe all applicable state and local transportation and safety regulations In cases of emergencies, inclement weather, or schedule changes, communicate promptly and be flexible in adjusting the route or timing as needed Maintain accurate ridership records and attendance logs Provide written notice to the Director of Operations of any recurring issues with the route, vehicle, or student behavior Anticipate problems and undertake solutions without prompting Required to perform other related duties as assigned Specific Responsibilities Transport students safely and punctually between school and designated drop-off/pick-up points along the assigned route Ensure all students are properly seated and buckled before the van is in motion Maintain a calm, orderly, and welcoming environment on the van Follow all school procedures for student sign-in/sign-out and parent/guardian hand-off Confirm student ridership against the daily roster and flag any discrepancies immediately Keep the van clean, organized, and stocked with any required safety equipment Required Physical Characteristics Ability to sit, enter, and exit the van repeatedly throughout the course of the route Ability to assist students with boarding and disembarking as needed Visual acuity of at least 20/40 (with corrective lenses if needed) sufficient to operate a vehicle safely and maintain accurate records Ability to communicate effectively (verbally and in writing) with students, parents, supervisors, and school staff, in English, as required for safety and job tasks Personal Attributes Maintain a positive, dependable, can-do approach to the work at hand Meet required standards of performance with minimum supervision Communicate comfortably and respectfully with students, families, faculty, and staff Daily performance of duties shall be carried out with patience, warmth, and respect for the school community Qualifications Valid driver's license in good standing Clean driving record Prior experience driving students or passengers preferred Ability to pass required background checks, including PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, and FBI fingerprinting, per Pennsylvania school employment requirements CPR/First Aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain) Must be at least 21 years of age Must have a High School Diploma or equivalentPay:
