We are seeking a dependable and compassionate Wheelchair Van NEMT Driver who takes passenger safety seriously and understands the additional responsibility involved in transporting individuals using wheelchairs and mobility devices. This is an early-stage position with growth potential. Hours will initially follow booked transportation demand and recurring routes. As HarborCare's contracted, facility and private-pay transportation grows, strong team members may have opportunities for increased and more consistent hours.
Responsibilities include:
operating a company-owned wheelchair-accessible vehicle; safely deploying and securing the wheelchair ramp; properly positioning and securing wheelchairs and mobility devices using the vehicle's approved securement system; properly securing passengers; performing pre-trip safety checks; assisting passengers respectfully and safely; maintaining communication with dispatch; completing trip documentation; maintaining vehicle cleanliness; and following all HarborCare, DPUC and broker safety requirements.
Requirements:
valid driver's license and acceptable 3-year DMV driving history; ability to pass required criminal/background screening; current CPR and First Aid certification, or ability to obtain before transporting passengers; Rhode Island DPUC Hackney Operator's License/Blue Card or ability to obtain one before beginning passenger transportation; ability to meet MTM Health credentialing and training requirements if assigned MTM trips; ability and willingness to complete hands-on wheelchair securement/passenger-assistance training and demonstrate competency before independently transporting wheelchair passengers; reliable smartphone; excellent attendance and punctuality; professional communication skills; and ability to safely perform the physical duties associated with wheelchair transportation. Wheelchair/NEMT experience is strongly preferred, but HarborCare will consider a highly dependable candidate with relevant passenger transportation, healthcare, senior-care, disability-services or professional driving experience who can successfully complete all required training and credentialing. HarborCare provides the wheelchair-accessible company vehicle, commercial insurance, fuel, required vehicle equipment and dispatch system. We're building the team from the beginning.
