The School Car Driver is a full-time position with benefits and a preferred hiring rate of $17.92 per hour. The ideal candidate for this position must have a driving record in accordance with City policy and be available for at least 6 hours per day (Monday - Friday) to drive students from Harrisonburg to regional cities for individualized educational opportunities. While each route is different, sample destinations may include Staunton, Charlottesville, Edinburg, and Lexington. Route assignments are made upon hire and determined by business needs. A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is not required for this position. As a School Car Driver, you'll provide safe, dependable transportation for students along an assigned route, helping ensure they arrive at school and home comfortably and on time. You will assist students as they board and exit the vehicle, maintain a welcoming and orderly environment, and respond professionally to changing traffic conditions, vehicle needs, or passenger emergencies using radio communication. Responsibilities also include completing pre-trip vehicle inspections, reporting maintenance or equipment concerns, and keeping your medium-sized passenger vehicle clean, fueled, and ready for each day's route. High school diploma or GED and some experience operating passenger vehicles or similar equipment and in dealing with the public.
