Job Description

SUMMARY:
Driver will provide safe, reliable transportation to clients on a weekly scheduled basis as well as outside contracted trips and is responsible for providing individualized services that is "people centered" with the goal that clients/participants have the best day possible in a safe and caring environment. Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities will include the following :
  • Maintains all safety protocol and ensures buses are clean and sanitized per policy and procedure.
  • Represent the Sunshine House well in our community and in the eyes of our participants, supporters and volunteers.
  • Provide a safe care and transportationfor participants at all times by such practices as; Proper operation of wheelchairs and all other medical/ mobile devices needed.
Transportation for participants by such practices as; if in a wheelchair ensure proper operation of wheelchair lift in addition to making sure they are properly tied down, assisting passengers loading and unloading to make sure they do not trip or fall, in certain cases ensuring there is someone home for them when we drop them off, providing door to door assistance to passengers when needed, communicating to appropriate staff and caregivers any unusual participant behaviors or physical issues, keeping passengers safely seated at all times while the vehicle is moving and ensure a positive/safe ride for our participants. Mechanical, Technical Skills, Knowledge/Education, Qualifications, Licensure/Certification, Experience 6 months experience driving preferred. Knowledge or previous training in driving bus, van or passengers. Minimum High School Diploma or Equivalent. Valid Driver's License and Excellent Driving Record. Minimum Twenty One (21) years of age. Outgoing and friendly to all. Ability to maintain confidential information, display good judgment, and respond to emergency or in difficult situations. Deal effectively with people at all levels of responsibility including visitors, clients, staff and volunteers. Safety Conscious, Dependable, Good decision making skills. Ability to respond effectively during medical or emergency situations. Excellent oral and written communication skills; able to effectively communicate with client, co-workers, volunteers, and management. Patient, self-confident and sensitive to individual needs. Able to adapt easily to frequent change including client needs and work schedule. Excellent customer service and listening skills. Team Player - work with others to execute the policies and goals of the organization.
