Duties Safely operate school vans and paratransit vehicles according to all traffic laws and transportation safety regulations. Pick up and drop off students at designated locations promptly while ensuring their safety throughout transit. Assist students with disabilities or those requiring wheelchair assistance, following proper procedures for mobility support. Maintain discipline and manage student behavior during transportation in accordance with school policies. Conduct pre-trip inspections of vehicles, checking mechanical functions, safety equipment, and cleanliness before each route. Respond swiftly to traffic changes or emergencies by executing emergency stop procedures and communicating effectively with dispatch or emergency responders. Ensure compliance with all state and local commercial driving laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety standards at all times. Skills Proven experience in bus driving, school bus driving, or transit bus operation with a strong understanding of transportation safety regulations. Knowledge of traffic laws, emergency response procedures for transportation, and vehicle maintenance basics. Excellent communication skills in English; bilingual abilities are a plus for serving diverse communities. Ability to perform heavy lifting when assisting students or handling equipment safely. Familiarity with child behavior management techniques and student discipline policies. Strong mechanical knowledge to identify vehicle issues early and ensure vehicle readiness. Customer service orientation with the ability to respond quickly to traffic changes and provide a positive experience for students and parents alike.
