N/A More about this job > Description The Queens County District Attorney's Housing Worker Consumer Protection Bureau is seeking a Trial Preparation Assistant. The Trial Preparation Assistant (TPA) will provide administrative, investigative, and grand jury trial preparation support to the attorneys in the Housing Worker Consumer Protection Bureau (HWCPB). Generally, TPA's assist Assistant District Attorneys with preparing cases at all stages. This work may involve interviewing members of the York City Police Department and other agencies, as well as victims and/or witnesses, in order to create affidavits; gathering, creating and compiling the paperwork required to create case files; drafting legal documents and correspondence; obtaining necessary evidence/documentation relating to cases from outside sources; identifying, locating, communicating and scheduling various witnesses; coordinating travel arraignments; assisting attorneys in the courtroom; conducting legal research and writing; handling Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) and exhibit requests. Additionally, TPAs in our bureau regularly communicate with outside agencies such as the Sheriff's Department, Department of Buildings, OSHA, and others; they implement and maintain databases with case and investigation information; and conduct legal research and writing.Preferred Education and Qualification Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree with educational focus on criminal justice or related education and/or work experience is preferred. Candidates with previous experience as a paralegal, legal assistant or other work in the criminal justice field will be given preference. All candidates must have at least a high school diploma or its educational equivalent. The TPA must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to interact with attorneys, and members of other city agencies including the courts, defense bar, NYPD, and other government agencies and members of the public. Those best suited for the position will be highly organized, self-starters adept at identifying and resolving problems while recognizing those issues requiring the assistance of an attorney. Lastly, they will possess the emotional intelligence and compassion required for speaking with crime victims.Job Details:
Schedule:
Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5PM Salary Range:
$55,000; upon completion of two years of service, salary: $60,000. Comprehensive benefits including, but not limited to, medical, dental, deferred comp., NYC pension.
