Job Description
Job Summary:
Performs two dimensional (2-D) ultrasonic recordings of internal organs for the diagnosis of disease and study of the malfunction of organs, Abdomen / OB. Participates in CQI activities. Full Time - $2500.00 sign on bonus PRN Demonstrates Competency in theFollowing Areas:
- Performs clinical assessment and diagnostic sonography examinations.
- Perform invasive ultrasound procedures, Doppler vascular examinations, Cardiovascular studies, deep abdominal studies, and color-flow ultrasound as required.
- Selects appropriate equipment for use in ultrasound setup, following exam specifications.
- Explain the test to the patient. Instructs and assists the patient in assuming the physical position for examination.
- Able to assess patient pain interfering with imaging procedure; makes appropriate physician contact for intervention.
- Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
- Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality.
- Selects a transducer and adjusts the equipment controls according to the organ to be examined, the depth of field and other specifications of test.
- Enter test data and patient information into computer ultrasound equipment to maintain record of test results.
- Moves transducer, by hand, over specified area of the body and observes sound wave display screen to monitor quality of ultrasonic pattern produced.
- Produces images of internal organs and records diagnostic data on magnetic tape, computer disk, strip printout or film.
- Obtains a permanent record of internal examination by photographing images of organs shown on the display module or removing the strip printout.
- Evaluates technical quality of images.
- Discusses test results with supervisor or attending physician.
- Performs all quality control checks, as prescribed.
- Maintains accurate QC logs, service records, etc.
- Maintains records of ultrasound exams, archiving and de-archiving data as required; calculates, compiles and records data from numerical readings on patient's medical record and related documents.
- Understands and practices proper use of all equipment; never operates equipment inconsistent with manufacturer's instruction.
- Calibrates, cleans and performs routine maintenance on equipment to ensure proper functioning; cleans and sterilizes instruments, supplies and equipment; stocks and replenish supplies as needed
- Documentation meets current standards and hospital policy
- Provides care appropriate to the condition and age of the patient, including pediatric, geriatric and general population.
Professional Requirements:
- Meets dress code standards; appearance is neat and clean.
- Completes annual educational requirements.
- Maintains regulatory requirements.
- Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated time.
- Consistently completes and maintains assigned duties; maintains PAR levels.
- Wears identification while on duty; uses computerized punch time system correctly.
- Attends annual review and department in services, as scheduled.
- Attend staff meetings, read and return all monthly staff meeting minutes.
- Maintains hospital requirements, policies and standards on confidentiality.
- Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
- Comply with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
- Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the hospital, as well as the focus statement of the department.
Regulatory Requirements:
- A Bachelor of Science degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography is desirable.
- Successful completion of an approved one (1) year program in ultrasound technology.
- Must be eligible for registry by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).
- One (1) year of radiologic/imaging experience.
- Graduation from an AMA-approved school of Radiologic Technology.
- ARRT certification.
- Certification in specialty.
- Current BCLS certification.
- Current compliance with Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements for specialty(ies) as appropriate.
Language Skills:
- Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Additional languages are preferred.
Skills:
Basic computer knowledge. Must have excellent communication skills. Must be self-directed.Physical Demands:
