Job Description

Description We are currently seeking a Underground Technician ­­­to join our team.
Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the area General Foreman, the Underground Technician position will be responsible for maintenance of underground equipment that includes implementation of all necessary protective measures for preventative and reactive maintenance duties, and perform routine inspections. Provide an efficient and safe work environment for employees and contractors in strict accordance with customer and ULCS (Utility Lines Construction Services) practices and procedures.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. Successfully completed underground training as required (not required for apprentices) Successfully completed underground Red Tag Certification or able to obtain. Must have a CDL Class A license with a X endorsement or obtain within 6 months. Knowledge of Electrical Transmission stations and underground lines operation and maintenance preferred. Able to read and understand drawings, schematics, and operating instructions, and manuals relating to substation transmission and underground equipment. Must be competent with power and hand tools. Safety and environmental knowledge. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities in the following environment: Frequent long hours Confined space entry Heavy lifting and bending Be available during off-duty hours. Familiar and able to use Microsoft Able to obtain and maintain security access from customer and work unescorted on customer related properties, substation and ROW's at all times. Work within all applicable safety rules. Wear all required PPE, which includes but not limited to: FR Clothing, Hard Hat, Safety Glasses, Safety Toed Boots, Harness. Work both independently and in group settings. Drives for an extended period of time to and from the job site.
Hazards:
Works alone in energized high voltage electrical substations up to 345,000 volts. Must work in close proximity of energized electrical equipment up to 345,000 volts. Exposed to static and induced voltages. Exposed to Electric and Magnetic Fields (EMF). May be exposed to Radio Frequency (RF) and Microwave Frequency. Works around hazardous equipment. Works with energized parts or equipment. May be subjected to high intensity and stressful situations. Work in all temperatures (cold, snow, ice, wind, rain, heat). Exposed to traffic and mobile equipment. Works on construction sites with uneven terrain. May be exposed to nature, i.e. irritating plants and biting or stinging insects. Work may be performed at varying heights above ground, in manholes, and/or in confined spaces.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be able to work in energized substations and power plants containing voltages up to and including 345,000 volts. Must be able to work with hands above head for extended periods of time. Must be able to walk, climb, and work from ladders, or at various heights, on uneven and slippery surfaces, performing mentally/physically demanding work under unfavorable weather conditions while handling equipment or material. Must be able to lift, move and maneuver heavy weights of up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis. Must be capable of pulling, pushing, bending, stooping and kneeling. Must have cognition to concentrate on the work for an 8 to 10-hour day. Must have endurance necessary to perform these duties throughout a standard eight (8) or ten (10) hour day according to the schedule. Must be able to work long hours and overtime during holidays, emergencies, weekends, etc. Subject to call out work
