Job Description
The Rivers School — a 6-12 co-ed independent day school in Weston, MA, just outside Boston — seeks professionals who are looking to join a dynamic, innovative, and welcoming school community. This one-year leave upper school history position for fall 2026 will consist of teaching four sections and possibly contributing to the co-curricular life of the school through coaching or club mentoring. The position will begin with opening professional community meetings at the end of August 2026 and run through June 2027. The ideal candidate will possess a commitment to personal growth and professional development as a teacher of history, research, and writing, as well as the ability and desire to collaborate effectively with colleagues regarding curriculum and pedagogy. A team-first attitude, a sincere care for student wellbeing, and a commitment to advancing the school's DEI mission are also essential qualities for a successful Rivers teacher. Candidates for this position should have strong organizational skills and at least two years' experience teaching history (preferably at the high school level). A bachelor's degree in History or a related field is required; a master's degree in History, education, or a related subfield is preferred.
