Job Description
Emergency Medicine, Without the Grind. We're looking for a compassionate DVM ready to do meaningful urgent care work — at a pace that lets you enjoy it.
Our Story:
More Than a Hospital — A Mission Veterinary Pulse Alliance is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with a dual mission: to meet our region's urgent need for after-hours veterinary care — and to support the people who make that care possible. Through our flagship initiative—Pet Pulse After Hours ER—we're creating a sustainable, compassionate solution to a long-standing gap in care. For over 30 years, Teton County's veterinary hospitals have struggled with rotating after-hours coverage, leading to burnout, staff turnover, and limited availability. Our urgent care hybrid hospital (opening early fall 2026) will change that. We'll be open nights, weekends, and holidays to provide urgent care when regular practices are closed, working in partnership with existing veterinarians. Our nonprofit structure lets us focus on what matters: excellent veterinary care, not profit margins. The Opportunity:
ER Medicine That Doesn't Break You Most emergency DVMs describe their careers as a war of attrition. The long shifts, relentless pace and little time to think often lead to significant mental health challenges. We're building a different model. Our urgent care and emergency hospital serves a community that needs after-hours care without the overwhelming volume of a major metro ER. High-acuity cases come in, but the caseload reflects the nature of our region — giving you room to practice thoughtful, thorough medicine. You'll work alongside a team that has your back, with leadership that values your input and a culture where medicine and wellbeing can coexist. Why Choose Us Manageable caseload — the pace reflects our community's needs, giving you space to practice your best medicine Clinical autonomy — make real decisions and lead treatment plans with full support behind you Focused, tight-knit team — you'll work with a team made up of skilled support staff, creating genuine collaboration without the chaos Nonprofit mission — the nonprofit mission will allow you to focus on care, not profit margins; every decision is guided by what's best for animals and the community Jackson Hole lifestyle — world-class outdoor recreation, stunning scenery, and a vibrant community right outside your doorWhat You'll Do:
The Full Picture of This Role Beyond the medicine, you'll be a trusted voice in a growing practice, a collaborator with a real seat at the table, not just a provider. Patient-First Care Be a true patient advocate. Manage medical needs with compassion and clinical rigor while keeping patient flow moving smoothly. Thorough Record Keeping Maintain accurate, timely medical records so every patient receives seamless, continuous care from the entire team. Dedicated, Mission-Driven Team Work closely with a tight-knit team of skilled professionals, collaborating to achieve a shared mission of exceptional emergency care. Referring DVM Relationships Build strong partnerships with local veterinarians and community hospitals, ensuring seamless communication and continuity of care for every patient you stabilize and refer back. Continuing Education Stay current, grow professionally, and bring fresh ideas — both medical and organizational — back to the practice. Nonprofit Community Impact As a 501(c)(3), our success depends on the team. You'll play an active role in outreach and helping us grow our mission to serve the community — not just practice medicine, but build something meaningful. What We're Looking For:
Qualifications & Requirements Standard credentials for Wyoming practice — if you're already licensed, you're most of the way there. ✓ DVM or VMD from an AVMA-accredited veterinary school ✓ Passed the NAVLE (National Board Examination) ✓ Valid Wyoming State Veterinary License (or ability to obtain) ✓ Valid DEA License for controlled substance handling ✓ Passed the Wyoming State Jurisprudence Examination ✓ Minimum 2 years clinical experience with comfort in emergency surgical procedures What Your Day-to-Day Looks Like We're open for walk-ins from 6-10pm Monday through Saturday and 10am-10pm on Sundays. After those hours, our doors are locked — but you and a seasoned technician remain on-site, available for emergencies when they arise, caring for hospitalized patients or resting in your private room. You'll be providing urgent and emergent care for pets that are currently being transported to the nearest pet ER 85+ miles away. Your service fills a critical gap in after-hours care — offering 24/7 hospitalization between Pet Pulse and the referring DVM, a much-needed missing link in our surrounding communities. While you'll be the sole DVM on-site, you won't be alone in your growth. We provide ongoing support through reflective case reviews, giving you a space to discuss complex cases, refine your approach, and continue developing your clinical judgment outside the pressure of the moment. What We Offer:
A Package as Strong as Your Medicine We built a compensation and benefits structure that respects your training, your dedication, and your life outside the clinic. Competitive Pro-Sal $150,000 base salary plus quarterly production — and no negative accrual . Your production resets each quarter, so a slow season never follows you. Sign-On Bonus & Relocation A meaningful sign-on bonus to make the decision easy, plus relocation assistance to get you to Jackson Hole without financial stress. Housing Stipend Monthly housing stipend to help offset Jackson Hole's cost of living — making it easier to live in one of the most beautiful places in the country. Professional Liability Coverage Full malpractice and professional liability insurance provided — so you can practice with confidence knowing you're covered. CE & License Allowance Annual continuing education budget to attend conferences and pursue specialty training, plus we cover your DEA registration, state license renewals, and professional dues. Comprehensive Insurance Full medical, dental, and vision coverage — because the doctor who takes care of everyone else deserves to be taken care of too. Ready to Join Us? We'd love to learn about you, your practice philosophy, and what you're looking for in your next opportunity. Please email resumes to ssouthwick@bhcteam.com Questions?
