  • OPS•Institutions Operations Job Classification Title User Support Technician I (NS) Position Number 60065297 Grade DT04 About Us The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees.
It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! Description of Work Reporting to the Administrative Officer III, this position requires a basic knowledge and understanding of a wide variety of technologies to effectively support users' technical needs. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Interacting with a broad range of users which requires strong communication skills and the ability to use a variety of technical resources for providing technical support.
  • Setting up and installing computer hardware, software, and/or peripheral equipment.
  • Performing minor repairs to hardware, software, and/or peripheral equipment. Imaging and/or reimaging CPUs. Loading software and databases.
  • Conducting computer diagnostics to determine the nature of problems.
  • Assigning and/or updating User Profiles.
  • Troubleshooting network login (Active Directory) setups, password resets, and Email/FIORI logins (North Carolina Identity Management System). Troubleshooting tablets used for electronic rounds.
  • Recommending the purchase and/or repair of equipment.
  • Conducting minor repairs to Copiers and/or Fax Machines.
  • Training staff on how to use a computer and/or related equipment.
  • Working with maintenance staff on wiring needs for the facility computers.
  • Maintaining inventory of computers and computer related hardware/software, to include assigned laptops. Performing monthly and quarterly inventory of all computer assets.
  • Performing other Administration duties as assigned.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences Salary Range:
$56,772

Division of Institutions:
The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions. The division provides safety, security, and rehabilitative services through trained custody staff, program facilitators, and administrative personnel.

Harnett Correctional Institution is located in Lillington, North Carolina and houses up to 988 male offenders in a medium custody facility.
