Utilities Assistant

Utilities Assistant - City of Yutan, NE The City of Yutan is seeking a dedicated Utilities Assistant to support the maintenance and operation of essential municipal infrastructure. This versatile role performs a variety of duties across the water, sewer, street, and park departments.

Compensation & Benefits Pay Range :

$25.00 - $30.00 per hour, depending on qualifications.

Certification Bonuses :

Earn an additional $0.50 per hour for each of the following certifications maintained: Water Operator Grade 4, Lagoon Wastewater Operator Grade 1, and Nebraska Commercial Applicators.

Emergency Pay :

Minimum of two hours of regular pay per incident for utility emergency responses.

Health & Dental :

The City contributes the first $500 monthly toward insurance premiums. Cash in

Lieu Option :

Employees with external coverage may opt out for a payment of $230.77 per pay period ($6,000 annually).

Retirement :

Eligible for the City's 457B plan with a match of up to 5% of gross earnings.

Paid Leave :

12 days of PTO and 40 hours of sick leave (up to 240 hours rollover) per year.

Holidays :

All federal holidays observed plus three 8-hour floating holidays annually.

Financial Security :

$50,000 life insurance policy plus short-term and long-term disability coverage.

Key Responsibilities Water & Sewer :

Support water tower maintenance, well repairs, state-mandated quality testing, and water/sewer line repairs. Assist with lagoon maintenance and lift station compliance.

Parks & Ballfields :

Manage mowing, fertilizing, and weed control. Maintain splash pads, sprinkler systems, and prepare athletic fields for games.

Street Department :

Handle snow removal operations and daily street maintenance, including pothole repairs and right-of-way mowing.

Shared Operations :

Assist with utility locating, meter reading, and general equipment maintenance for the shop and mowers.

Requirements & Perks Certification Timeline :

Must obtain Water Operator Grade 4 and Lagoon Wastewater Operator Grade 1 certifications within the first year of employment.

Gear Provided :

Uniforms are provided at no cost, plus a $200 annual allowance for boots or winter gear.

Professional Development :
