Chocker Job Description The Chocker is responsible for safely securing automobiles within transport carriers to ensure they remain stable and protected during transit. This role involves precise vehicle positioning, application and removal of chocks and straps, and consistent adherence to safety procedures in a physically active, outdoor work environment. Responsibilities Secure vehicles within carriers so they can be transported safely and efficiently. Place chocks on each car wheel and remove them at the appropriate time. Ensure the precise positioning of automobiles within carriers according to established procedures. Apply chocks and straps to vehicles in the carrier to prevent movement during transit. Remove chocks and straps from vehicles upon arrival at the terminal. Wear and properly use all required protective equipment while working. Take personal responsibility for safety and follow all safety guidelines and protocols. Work from written assignment sheets and accurately sign off work completed on printed forms. Read and interpret operational manuals and follow written instructions. Respond promptly and professionally to requests for service and assistance. Maintain confidentiality and handle information responsibly. Work well under pressure and tight deadlines while managing conflict constructively. Demonstrate initiative, decisiveness, and a positive influence on others in the workplace. Remain open to new ideas and approaches and adapt to changing work demands. Communicate clearly and persuasively in both positive and challenging situations, asking questions and seeking clarification when needed. Capability to regularly lift and move up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 80 pounds. Additional Skills & Qualifications Comfort working in production and general labor environments. Experience with strapping or securing materials or equipment is beneficial. Ability to work alone and unsupervised while maintaining productivity and safety. Willingness to work odd hours and split shifts, including days, nights, and weekends. Adaptability to working in all weather conditions and around moving mechanical parts. Ability to function in a moderate noise environment with occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based in an active transportation yard, regularly exposing employees to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The noise level is typically moderate, with occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles. Team members must be willing to work in all weather conditions and adjust to varying hours to accommodate train arrivals and departures. The position requires working odd hours and split shifts, including days, nights, and weekends, with 6-hour shifts scheduled 5-6 days per week, every weekend, and 1-2 days off during the week. Work is often performed alone and unsupervised, and the environment is production-oriented and physically demanding, with regular lifting and movement of heavy materials. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lorton, VA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
