21800 Central Avenue, Matteson, IL 60422 Role Summary The DVM Clinic Director plays a central leadership role in delivering exceptional veterinary care while guiding a high-performing clinical team. This position blends hands-on medicine with operational oversight, ensuring that patients receive outstanding care and clients feel supported, informed, and valued. The ideal candidate is a skilled clinician, a confident leader, and a collaborative partner in driving the clinic's medical and operational excellence. Essential Responsibilities Clinical Care & Client Service Build and maintain strong, trusting client relationships. Diagnose, treat, and manage a wide range of small animal cases. Perform dental procedures with proficiency. Conduct general wellness exams and perform routine soft tissue surgeries. Maintain exceptional standards of client communication and patient care. Utilize and guide an experienced support staff to ensure efficient, compassionate care. Promote a positive, team-oriented work environment. Clinical Leadership & Quality of Care Establish and uphold high medical standards, protocols, and procedures. Manage and observe any onsite training, such as Veterinary Technician Certification requirements. Provide mentorship, training, and clinical guidance to veterinarians. Manage complex medical cases and oversee treatment planning. Stay up to date with new studies, best practices, and research. Ensure compliance with veterinary regulations, ethical standards, and industry best practices. Operations & Management Oversee daily clinic operations in partnership with management staff. Manage veterinary staff performance and professional development. Address and resolve client concerns and complex service issues. Business & Financial Acumen Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to support clinic success. Participate in all external partnership opportunities. Participate in strategic planning and identify opportunities for new services. Team & Culture Foster a collaborative, supportive, and inclusive team culture. Lead hiring, interviewing, coaching, and disciplinary processes for veterinary staff. Model professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to continuous improvement. Job Requirements Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from an accredited program. Licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of Illinois. Minimum five years of experience preferred. Proficiency in dental procedures required. Experience with small-animal medicine and soft-tissue surgery is required. High-volume practice experience preferred. Ability to work effectively with a diverse client population. Strong motivation, curiosity, and commitment to ongoing learning. Demonstrated ethics, integrity, and sound clinical judgment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills; bilingual candidates are a plus. The SSHS annually impacts 20,000 pets and the people who love them through these programs.
