If you enjoy empowering someone to be themselves, this unique job may suit your fancy. I consider myself alternatively abled because I have found alternative ways to do most things. For instance, I write a series of reality-based novels using an eye gaze communication system. Yes, I type with my eyes. I also learned how to drive my wheelchair with my head. I live a typical life by using a combination of assistive technology and support staff. I am hiring calm and measured individuals to be my midday support staff (12 pm - 8 pm at $25.00 / hour) to assist me with daily tasks that I am physically unable to do myself. The job duties include physically assisting me with my personal needs, eating pre-prepared meals, cat care for my three cute boys, cleaning, being willing to drive me in my accessible minivan, and being within earshot when I am doing independent activities. I thoroughly enjoy exercising my cognitive independence by emailing colleagues and friends, working on my novels, making all decisions, Zooming people, and making plans. In addition to managing all aspects of my own life, I manage my support staff. I appreciate people who are self-starters, mellow, thoughtful, and joyful. My staff finds me straightforward, thorough, fair to the team, and creatively funny. Since I live a busy life, I don't have time to entertain my staff, but I can get chatty at times using my eye gaze communication system and eye code.
