Job Description

Major Function:
This is an entry-level position designed for individuals seeking a career in water and wastewater operations. The selected candidate will receive hands-on training and must obtain their Florida Class C Wastewater Operator Licenses within 12 months of hire. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to gain valuable experience and advance in the water and wastewater utility industry.
Essential Duties:
Assist in the daily operation and maintenance of water and wastewater treatment facilities. Learn to perform manual and mechanical tasks relating to the daily operation of a wastewater treatment facility. Assist with physically adjusting valves and gates to adjust flow of sewage. Maintains written operational records; detailed logs and records of plant operations and laboratory results. Performs basic arithmetic calculations and interprets results. Cleans and performs routine maintenance and repair of tank wires, piping, waste treatment machinery, and equipment. Physically handles various chemicals and materials. Performs general janitorial and groundskeeping functions. Participate in safety training and adhere to all industry regulations. Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED, Valid Drives License. Must be able to work shift work, holidays and weekends. With a maximum of 30 hours a week.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Must obtain Florida Class C Wastewater Operator Licenses within 12 months of hire. 2. Ability to learn and apply water and wastewater treatment principles. 3. Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to work in a hands-on environment. 4. Ability to follow instructions and work both independently and as part of a team. 5. Basic computer skills for data entry and reporting. 6. Ability to stand, kneel, and climb ladders as needed. 7. Work in various weather conditions.

Constant walking, climbing stairs, standing, and bending; constant use of both hands and fingers; very frequent light lifting, light carrying, climbing (legs and arms) and reaching above shoulder, very frequent use of good near vision and good hearing; frequent lifting up to eight (80) pounds and carrying, climbing (legs only), need for good distant vision, and the ability to distinguish basic colors; frequent straight pulling, pushing, kneeling, and stooping. 1.

While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret data, information, and documents; analyze and solve problems; use math and mathematical reasoning; observe and interpret situations; learn and apply new information or new skills; work under deadlines with constant interruptions; interact with City staff and other organizations; and frequently deal with dissatisfied or quarrelsome individuals. Work Environment Very frequently working closely with others; working outside, in heat and high humidity; working with fumes, gases, chemicals (chlorine, lime, soda ash, ammonia, carbon dioxide, mild acids); working with electrical energy; working with moving objects; with hands in water; with vibrations. Frequently works alone and in darkness (nights), cold, dampness or chilliness, in dry conditions; noisy conditions; with grease and/or oil; on uneven surfaces; at heights up to fifty (50) feet above ground level; with feet and/or legs in water.
Work Hazards:
Chemical hazards, combined water, and electrical hazards.
Safety Equipment Used or Needed:
Rubber boots, rubber gloves, goggles, rainwear, hard hats, safety glasses, safety harness, respirator, and self-contained breathing apparatus. $16.50 - $17.00 per hour
