Water Operator (Levels 1-3)

Description of Position:

The Wayland Department of Public Works seeks qualified candidates to join our dedicated team as a Licensed Water Operator . This essential position in our Water Division performs technical and skilled manual work in the construction and maintenance of the water distribution and treatment systems to ensure the delivery of safe drinking water to Wayland's 14,000 residents. Responsibilities include the repair and maintenance of water distribution and treatment facilities, water mains, services, hydrants, pumping stations, and related water equipment and facilities. Candidates are expected to participate in the on-call rotation after completing training. Wayland offers a 4-day workweek during the summer months, as well as opportunities for professional development. This is a non-exempt position and candidates are expected to work overtime as needed. Vacation benefits may be considered based on experience and years worked in the profession.

Recommended Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

High School diploma; additional related education or training is preferred.

Experience:

Experience in water distribution systems, including construction and heavy equipment operation, is preferred. Experience in a water treatment plant is desirable.

Licenses/Certificates:

• Minimum Grade 1 Distribution OIT required at time of hire.
• Must be willing and able to obtain Grade 1 Treatment OIT within six (6) months of hire.
• Grade 2 Distribution and Grade 2 Treatment preferred.
• Must have a valid Class D driver's license.
• Class B CDL preferred.
• Valid Hoisting License preferred.
