City Administrator Position Summary:
The Wastewater Plant Superintendent is responsible for overseeing the daily operations, maintenance, and regulatory compliance of the municipal wastewater treatment facility. This role ensures the plant operates efficiently, safely, and in full compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental regulations. Key Responsibilities Manage and supervise all wastewater treatment plant operations and personnel Ensure compliance with all applicable environmental permits and regulations to include the NPDES, Industrial Pretreatment and Biosolids programs Monitor plant performance, process control, and laboratory results Develop and update the preventative and corrective maintenance programs Prepare and manage budgets, operational reports, and capital improvement plans Coordinate inspections, audits, and reporting with regulatory agencies Oversee operation and maintenance of the lift stations Lead safety programs and enforce workplace safety standards Respond to emergencies, alarms, and operational issues as needed Train, mentor, and evaluate plant staff Qualifications High school diploma, Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering or related field preferred Valid State of Michigan Class B Wastewater Treatment Operator License or higher Minimum of 4-6 years of progressively responsible experience in wastewater treatment Prior supervisory or management experience preferred Strong knowledge of wastewater treatment processes, equipment, and regulations Ability to read and interpret technical documents, blueprints, and regulatory guidelines
Certifications:
Valid State of Michigan Class B Wastewater Operator license or higher Valid State of Michigan driver's license
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Leadership and team management Strong communication and organizational skills Familiarity with SCADA systems and plant instrumentation
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in both office and outdoor environments Exposure to chemicals and biological hazards and wastewater equipment Availability for on-call duty for emergencies, including nights, weekends, and holidays
