The Penobscot Nation is seeking a Youth Program Kitchen Aid who is responsible for assisting the Youth Program Coordinator in aiding in the Child and Adult Care Food Program. The Youth Program Kitchen Aid is responsible for providing an environment that is safe, clean and promotes a healthy lifestyle. The Youth Program Kitchen Aid position will include shopping, preparing, cooking, cleaning, and maintaining food service attendance records, and reporting any issues. All Youth Program workers assist in the Development and implementation of youth programs that address emotional, social, cognitive, and behavioral development of youth. All Youth Program employees are mandated reporters.Qualifications Required:
- Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and High School graduate or equivalent.
- First Aid and CPR required or ability to obtain certification within 3 months of hire date.
- Ability to speak, read, and understand written instructions such as duty schedules, standard operating procedures, recipes, and work instructions.
- Food Service must have the ability to prepare and cook complete meals and snacks work independently when required and be directly involved in preparing and cooking food, including cooking from established recipes, weighing, and proportioning ingredients, adjusting recipes to accommodate the number of people to be served, and preparing special dietary plates in compliance with USDA and Child & Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) standards.
- Requires broad knowledge of food service operations required of large kitchen including, food handling procedures for special and complex food, preparing and cooking food, inventory, food storage, equipment maintenance, sanitation, and safety.
- Must have a valid State of Maine Driver's License.
- Candidate must undergo a character investigation, including a criminal background check as required by
P.L. 101-630.
- Must have successful TB test results.
- Must successfully pass pre-employment screenings as stated in Penobscot Nation Policies and Procedures.
- Native American Preference will be adhered to in accordance with the Penobscot Nation Personnel Policies and Procedures.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Be able to work with special needs youth and follow behavioral guides created for youth.
- Assist in coordinating and planning menus that follow the USDA and Child & Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) standards.
- Ensures compliance with the US Agriculture (USDA) Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), and all pertaining policies and regulations.
- Assists with planning, shopping, and food preparation with tasks such as cutting, sorting, and washing vegetables and fruits; assembling sandwiches; and measuring and weighing ingredients.
- Serve meals for all youth at meal service time.
- Practice proper food storage such as labeling and dating food items in refrigerator and freezers and stores leftovers in accordance with sanitation and health standards.
- Preform kitchen maintenance such as pre-rinsing and washing of pots, dishes, glasses and silverware and cleaning of service carts.
- Perform heavy-duty cleaning tasks throughout food service areas such as cleaning ceilings, cleaning exhaust hoods, cleaning spaces under and behind kitchen equipment, washing floors and walls, cleaning refrigerators and freezers, and sanitizing garbage removal.
- Complete incident/accident report and notify the Youth Coordinator.
- Be able to communicate appropriately and effectively with youth, parents, and the community.
- Monitor the use of equipment and facilities and report any safety issues that need to be addressed to the youth program coordinator.
- Interacts harmoniously and effectively with others, focusing upon the attainment of Penobscot Nation goals and objectives through a commitment to teamwork.
- Conforms to acceptable attendance/punctuality standards as expressed in the Employee Handbook.
- Performs other duties as assigned as required.
Physical Demands/Conditions/Requirements:
- This position requires physical work that includes standing, reaching, bending and lifting and carrying objects weighing 25 pounds to 50 pounds.
